We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering Design (ELD) team at our Batu Kawan manufacturing facility. The role focuses on supporting automotive product design activities from concept development through to production release within a factory-based environment.
The ideal candidate will be involved in design development, engineering problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination with internal departments to ensure smooth product execution in the manufacturing plant.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent
1–3 years of experience in automotive product design or manufacturing environment (fresh graduates with strong CAD skills are encouraged to apply)
Proficient in CATIA V5
Knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and product development lifecycle
Familiar with FMEA, APQP, IMDS/CAMDS, and engineering change processes is an advantage
Strong command of English (spoken & written); additional languages are an advantage
Must be willing to work on-site at Batu Kawan factory
Develop and refine automotive component designs based on engineering requirements
Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed technical drawings
Ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness for production use
Support prototype build and validation activities within the factory
Analyse design-related issues and propose engineering improvements
Support Product Design & Change Management processes
Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with internal teams
Provide technical support to Production, Quality, Purchasing, Vendors, and Sales teams
Work closely with manufacturing teams to resolve production-related design issues
Coordinate with suppliers when required for design clarification
Participate in FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) activities
Support QRC meetings and engineering review sessions
Ensure compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and manufacturing guidelines
Manage IMDS and CAMDS submissions when required
Support documentation and data management in PLM systems (e.g. ONE PLM / Teamcenter if assigned)
Ensure proper version control and accuracy of engineering data
Identify technical issues during design or production stages
Escalate problems to Section Head when necessary for timely resolution
Follow internal EAP approved signatory guidelines
Obtain approval before contacting external parties (vendors/customers/other departments)
All formal communication must be routed through the ELD Head
Maintain professional communication in all technical documentation and correspondence
Strong CAD modelling skills and technical drawing capability
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented with strong engineering discipline
Ability to work in a manufacturing/factory environment
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Able to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines
