Job Description
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of high-end scientific instruments and complex equipment on a project level. You will guide product development from initial concept through to production, creating accurate models and documentation that align with rigorous engineering standards. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will translate complex requirements into innovative, manufacturable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Create detailed 3D models, complex assemblies, and 2D technical drawings using CAD software.
- Analysis & Validation: Support your designs with functional, structural, and thermal analyses. Lead prototype builds and validation activities to ensure performance.
- Documentation: Produce and manage comprehensive engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical specifications, and revision updates.
- Collaboration: Work closely with specialists, project managers, and manufacturing teams to identify potential production or assembly issues early in the design phase (DFM).
- Testing: Create and document test procedures, analyze numerical and graphical data, and provide recommendations for product or test method improvements.
- Process Improvement: Participate in design reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of products and internal engineering processes.
Ideal Experience & Qualifications
- Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-mechanical Engineering, Product Development, or a related technical field.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a technical environment, preferably involving precision instrumentation or machinery.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in 3D modeling; experience with CREO is a significant asset.
- Familiarity with other CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and PLM systems.
- Technical Knowledge: Practical understanding of mechanisms, materials, coatings, and manufacturing techniques.
- Strong grasp of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Ability to use basic and advanced shop tools for prototyping and testing.
