Mechanical Design Engineer – IntelliServ Norway AS Location: Tananger, Norway Business Unit: IntelliServ Reports to: Global Operations Manager The Mechanical Design Engineer will support the IntelliServ product line, focusing on the development, optimization, and reliability of wired drill pipe and related network components. This role requires technical expertise, project management skills, and customer engagement to drive product improvements, enhance adoption, and ensure seamless integration with IntelliServ-enabled drilling systems. Additionally, the role will emphasize product strategy, ensuring IntelliServ continues to deliver cutting-edge solutions for high-speed data transmission in drilling operations. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal teams—including engineering, operations, and sales—as well as external customers and partners to drive technical excellence and product innovation..

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the mechanical technical specialist for IntelliServ’s wired drill pipe and network components, partnering with engineering to refine designs, improve manufacturability, and enhance system reliability.
  • Lead product improvement efforts by using field performance data, customer feedback, and operational requirements to improve reliability, quality, and cost efficiency in collaboration with manufacturing and engineering teams.
  • Analyze reliability issues, support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on product failures with the Operations Support Team, and help implement corrective actions to improve field performance.
  • Provide technical support to customers and field teams through troubleshooting, issue resolution, and on-site or remote support, while partnering with sales and marketing to communicate product value and support adoption.
  • Manage product improvement, integration, and process optimization initiatives through cross-functional coordination, including PLM improvements and technology partnerships.

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in drilling technology, downhole tools, or oilfield services, preferably in product engineering.
  • Strong understanding of drilling operations, data acquisition technologies, and downhole tool development, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, reliability engineering, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a proactive mindset.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with drilling automation, remote operations, and API or related industry standards for drill string components.
  • Experience with customer engagement, sales support, and technology adoption initiatives.
  • Project management experience.
