Job Description

Role Purpose

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the end‑to‑end design, development, and validation of precision mechanical components and assemblies used in photonic, fiber‑optic, and micro‑positioning applications.

This role covers product mechanical design, as well as integration and assembly considerations, ensuring the product meets performance, manufacturability, and reliability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Product Design

  • Design mechanical components and sub‑systems for photonic or fiber‑optic applications (alignment frames, holders, modules, etc.).
  • Conduct full product development process: concept, design, prototyping, verification, and implementation.

OptoMechanical Assembly Integration

  • Design precision alignment structures and assembly‑friendly mechanisms.
  • Ensure mechanical designs support micron‑level optical alignment requirements.

Prototype Build & Validation

  • Support prototype fabrication and assembly.
  • Validate design through mechanical/thermal/environmental tests.

Fixture & Tooling Development

  • Design precision fixtures, jigs, alignment tools, and assembly aids to support product build.
  • Work with automation/assembly teams to ensure proper integration.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Work with Global R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams to transition designs into scalable production.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on precision machining, tooling, and component fabrication.

Troubleshooting & Improvement

  • Support production with mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement design improvements.

Experiences/Education - Required

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5+ years experience in mechanical design, preferably in precision components or micro‑assembly.

Required Skills:

  • Strong mechanical design fundamentals (GD&T analysis, material selection, thermal).
  • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks / Creo).
  • Ability to analyze mechanical/assembly performance data.
  • English proficiency equivalent to TOEIC 750+ or other recognized certifications (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL), with strong capability in technical communication and documentation.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong teamwork with optical, mechanical, process, and manufacturing groups.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Independent, analytical, and detail‑oriented engineering mindset.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with fiber‑optic components, FAUs, fiber alignment, or photonic packaging.
  • Background in micro‑assembly, active alignment, or precision manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of material properties, CTE matching, and stress analysis for optical assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience with CAE software for mechanical analysis, including modal analysis and thermal simulation.
  • Familiarity with optical simulation tools and basic experimental characterization.
  • Experience with automation or high‑precision assembly equipment.
