Job Purpose

To ensure mill mechanical equipment and facilities are maintained in safe, reliable, and efficient operating condition by coordinating mechanical maintenance activities, directing assigned personnel, and working effectively with operations and other departments.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Coordinate and support facility maintenance, including buildings, roads, roofs, and related infrastructure
  • Maintain maintenance shops, shop equipment, laydown yards, and assigned work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Coordinate the use and care of mobile cranes, forklifts, manlifts, and overhead cranes as required.
  • Coordinate parts and material needs for the maintenance shop and work with storeroom personnel to ensure availability
  • Fill in for the Maintenance Lead or Supervisor as required.
  • Direct and support mechanical shift personnel and ensure assigned equipment and work areas are properly maintained
  • Participate in mill activities including planned shutdowns, down days, outages, breakdowns, and emergency repairs as required.
  • Promote safe work practices, quality workmanship, and timely completion of assigned maintenance activities.
  • Perform these and all other duties assigned in accordance with all safety rules and regulations.

What do I need to be successful?

RECCOMMENDED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience; OSB, lumber, or heavy manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a mechanical lead, senior mechanic, or similar leadership role preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school, mechanic, industrial maintenance, welding, or related training preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, chains, sprockets, couplings, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, and lubrication systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment, identify root causes, and coordinate repairs safely and efficiently
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, drawings, procedures, work orders, and safety requirements.
  • Experience coordinating and directing maintenance personnel during planned work, breakdowns, shutdowns, and outages.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, manlifts, mobile cranes, and other material-handling equipment as required.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to assign work, communicate priorities, and follow jobs through completion.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and electronic work orders

Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in an OSB manufacturing and industrial maintenance environment.
  • Regular exposure to heat, cold, humidity, rain, dust, noise, smoke, vibration, and other conditions associated with an industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and working in restricted or elevated areas.
  • Must be able to work safely at heights and around operating industrial machinery and mobile equipment.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces while following applicable safety procedures.
  • Position may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tools, parts, and equipment associated with mechanical maintenance work.
  • Must be able to perform troubleshooting and repairs during equipment breakdowns and time-sensitive situations while maintaining safe work practices.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all site safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be available for overtime, shutdowns, outages, call-ins, weekends, holidays, and periodic on-call responsibilities as operational needs require.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must be available for additional training.
  • Other duties or responsibilities not listed above may be assigned as necessary.
