Imagine working at the forefront of innovation in fluid-flow technology, with over 1,400 colleagues across the globe, and contributing to a legacy of excellence that spans eight manufacturing facilities on four continents. Armstrong Fluid Technology is more than just a leader in our industry; we are a community of the brightest and most creative minds, driven by a shared mission to engineer the future and safeguard our planet.

As part of our team, you'll be immersed in an environment that fosters growth, creativity, and collaboration. Here, you'll have the opportunity to push boundaries, tackle exciting challenges, and develop cutting-edge solutions that promote energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Every day offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to a more sustainable future, driving innovations that help lower global carbon footprints. Together, we’re creating a legacy that goes beyond business—one that’s changing the world for the better.

In this role, the Mechanical CAD Designer will be responsible for creating accurate production drawings, fabrication packages, Bills of Materials, and manufacturing documentation for Armstrong's modular HVAC, pumping, and packaged plant room solutions. The role will work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Production teams to convert engineering designs into production-ready documentation while ensuring accuracy, quality, manufacturability, and compliance with company standards.

Key Accountabilities

Production Drawing Development

  • Create detailed manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, piping, and weldment drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Develop and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and production drawing packages for modular HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Produce General Arrangement (GA) drawings, equipment layouts, and installation drawings to support manufacturing and site requirements.
  • Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and drawing revision records.

CAD Documentation & Standards

  • Confirm P&IDs match 3D model and mechanical schematics m.
  • Maintain engineering documentation within PDM/PLM systems and ensure drawing revisions are properly controlled.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with Armstrong drafting standards, quality requirements, and applicable industry codes.
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and drawing updates throughout the project lifecycle.

Manufacturing & Production Support

  • Work closely with Manufacturing and Production teams to resolve drawing and assembly issues.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve manufacturability, quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Review supplier drawings and integrate vendor equipment information into production documentation.
  • Support prototype builds, production improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Project teams to ensure documentation accuracy and project readiness.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide CAD expertise to improve product quality and production efficiency.
  • Support project execution by delivering documentation on schedule and resolving drawing-related issues promptly.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should bring:

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related discipline.
  • 3–8 years of experience creating production drawings, manufacturing documentation, or engineered equipment designs.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing environments involving piping, structural steel, weldments, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience working with HVAC systems, packaged equipment, hydronic systems, or industrial mechanical products is considered an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks Parts, Assemblies, Drawings, Weldments, and Sheet Metal.
  • Experience with SolidWorks Routing for piping and tubing design.
  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical for electrical routing and schematic development.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for P&IDs, mechanical schematics, and production documentation.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, drafting standards, and document control processes.
  • Experience generating accurate Bills of Materials and manufacturing documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment layouts, and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems is considered an asset.

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate production documentation.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project and production deadlines.
