Job Description

Pay Rate: $34.50 per hour
Shift: 6am-4pm

The Lead mechanic position will be approximately 50% labor (working vehicles) and 50% administrative (working with vendors, supervising daily activities of the shop, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
• Schedule and ensure that all required PM inspections are performed.
• Ensure that all service intervals are met as part of the PM inspection and repair activity.
• Schedule and ensure that all driver reported defects are repaired on the same day written.
• Ensure that any vehicles with safety or security problems are removed from service until repaired and/or inspected.
• Ensure by personal inspection, on a random basis, that all PM inspections and repairs are properly made in a quality manner and that all vehicles are in a safe and operational condition.
• Ensure by personal inspection that all brake, major engine, steering, and suspension repairs are performed correctly and in a quality manner before the vehicle is returned to service.
• Review all repair orders for time, parts used, and description of work done.
• Review all PM inspection checks-sheets for completeness.
• Perform inventory and order parts and supplies as needed.
• Test drive on a random basis, vehicles that have had a PM inspection, brake repair, tune-ups, or other major repairs to ensure the work was performed in a quality manner.
• Examine all major components to ensure replacement is necessary and to determine what caused the failure.
• Ensure all breakdowns, safety/security related, and driver reported defects are repaired and completed daily.
• Schedule, plan and supervise all shop activities to ensure maximum productivity.
• Ensure that the shop is always clean and safe.
• Ensure all vehicle records are accurate, complete, and are kept up to date.
• Ensure that all monthly reports are completed and reported on time.
• Exercise control over the parts, supplies and outside repairs, as well as the technician’s work hours to ensure that costs are held to a minimum.
• Conduct monthly meetings with technicians to inform them of shop performance, problem areas as well as strong areas.
• Ensure that all technicians have been trained in the proper handling of hazardous materials as well as procedures to follow in case of a hazardous material spill. Ensure that Material Safety Data Sheets are up to date and that technicians know how to use them.
• Ensure that the Operations Department is aware of all shop activities. Develop and maintain a close relationship to ensure there are no service interruptions.
• Apply proper employee discipline when necessary.
• Immediately bring instances of vehicle abuse, major mechanical problems, missed PM schedules, high out of service level and poor employee performance to the attention of the Branch Manager.
Primary Requirements:
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years of experience conducting or managing light utility or truck repair and maintenance or a graduate from a reputable trade school.
• Required operational knowledge of diesel equipment and tools normally associated with the troubleshooting and repairs of gasoline and diesel truck equipment.
• You must have a valid driver’s license (C or better) and meet qualifications as outlined in section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations.
• ASE certifications are a plus.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Knowledge of International diesel medium-duty trucks as well as ford gas and diesel engines are preferred.
• Must be able to accurately perform preventive maintenance to fleet vehicles, can spot component failures, worn or damaged parts, diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle systems, and produce quality repairs.
• Ability to read and understand technical service manuals, repair orders, labels, and gauges.
• Proficient knowledge of Windows operating systems as well as web-based maintenance tracking software.

 Working Conditions:
• Full-time position consists of an average of 40 to 50 hours per week.
• Available for evening shift if work when necessary.
• Available to travel to other branches that position supports.
• Be available for Saturday or Sunday work, if necessary, due to Operational service.
• Possible exposure to gasoline/diesel fumes.
• Exposed to wet and dry conditions in extreme heat and/or cold.
