MECHANIC IN TRAINING

Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as pumps, generators, electric motors, pneumatic pumps and tools, motor control centers, and control panels by performing the following duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble
• Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
• Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
• Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements
• Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments
• Repair or replace defective parts
• Install special functional and structural parts in devices
• Lubricate and clean parts
• Start devices to test their performance
• Initiate purchase order parts and machines
• Repair electrical equipment
• Attend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policies
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Prefer three months of related experience, high school diploma or GED, or specialized vocational training. Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.

Knowledge of:
Problem Solving – identifying and resolving problems promptly, gathering and analyzing information skillfully, developing alternative solutions
Computerized maintenance management software

Skill in:
Demonstrating persistence and overcoming obstacles
Using equipment and materials properly
Observing safety and security procedures and in determining appropriate action beyond guidelines
Generating suggestions for improving work and developing innovative approaches and ideas

Ability to:
Pursue training and development opportunities; continuously build knowledge and skills
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Working conditions
The position requires some responsibility for safety and health of others and/or for occasional enforcement of the standards of public safety or health.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical requirements
This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force on a regular basis.

The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required.
