Job Description

Build, Test, and Bring Legendary Engines Back to Life

Some of the machines you will work on have been running for decades, and the brands behind them go back to 1833. At Cooper Machinery Services, a Mechanic I does hands-on work on moderate to highly complex natural gas compression equipment: taking it apart, putting it back together, testing it, and sending it back to the field.

If you like working with your hands, reading prints, and seeing the result of your work run, you will find plenty of that here. You will work on equipment from Cooper-Bessemer™, Ajax™, and Superior™, which are names that are respected across the industry. Our team is built on safety, quality, and teamwork, and we have room for people who want to learn and grow.

What You Will Do

  • Disassemble, position, reassemble, test, and paint moderate to highly complex equipment
  • Use a wide range of mechanical tools and equipment for disassembly, assembly, and testing
  • Set up and run test operations following engineering specifications
  • Troubleshoot problems and perform minor maintenance on mechanical equipment
  • Complete risk assessments before starting operations and moving materials
  • Follow all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies and keep your work area safe, clean, and organized
  • Make sure facility equipment and tooling are operational, efficient, and safe
  • Identify and report problems or hazardous conditions
  • Complete all required documentation and business training accurately
  • Work with your team, and take on additional duties as assigned

Who You Are

Experience and education

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 0–2 years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly, or heavy equipment repair and maintenance
  • Able to interpret drawings, prints, and engineering specifications
  • Basic math skills and the ability to read schematics
  • Familiar with tools and equipment operation
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair equipment
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and good housekeeping requirements
  • Valid driver’s license

Work requirements

  • Able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Physically capable of pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and other physical activities

How you work

  • A team player who is comfortable collaborating and communicating
  • Self-directed. You can work independently from engineering specifications.
  • Mechanically minded with strong attention to detail

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience in operations or service center environments
  • Strong knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor equipment

Don’t meet every preferred qualification? Apply anyway. We want to hear from motivated candidates who meet the core requirements and are ready to learn.
