Job Location: Warsaw Bay Transit Facility - Warsaw, VA 22572
Position Type: Full Time
Salary Range: $25.00 - $30.00 Hourly

The Mechanic performs duties to help maintain the fleet of vehicles.  Duties include routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs.  Reports to the Fleet Manager. Pay Rate:  $25.00/hr-$30.00/hr. Reports to the Fleet Manager.
Essential functions
- Responsible for conducting all inspections, maintenance, and repairs of Bay Aging/Bay Transit fleet.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on cars, trucks, and buses including oil changes, brake repairs, tire mounting and balancing, and other mechanical maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Reads and understands automotive technical service bulletins, repair manuals, and mechanical diagrams.
- Uses diagnostic equipment to analyze problems reported by drivers and operators, and performs appropriate repairs in accordance with acceptable repair practices.
- Follows written and verbal instructions and reports all unsafe or improper conditions to the supervisor.
- Works independently and with a team of automotive care professionals.
- Follows all posted and written directions regarding safe practices, including the dispensing and handling of waste oil and other automotive by-products.
- Maintains cleanliness of shop.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Fleet Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Expert knowledge of vehicle maintenance, tools and equipment, and techniques for repairing vehicles; mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Works in the maintenance shop or where vehicles are located to perform duties.  Must be physically able to bend, stoop, stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 100 pounds.  Must be able to multi-task and prioritize needs. Good attitude towards customers and coworkers required.

QualificationsRequires a High School Diploma or equivalent;  specialized training or at least 3 years’ experience as a
Vehicle mechanic, or 1 year of experience and 2 years’ of trade school in related field; must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be able to pass a criminal history background check and employment drug test.
FLSA status: This is a non-exempt position.
