Job Description

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is an international, nonprofit conservation organization with two front doors: the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. We integrate wildlife health and care, science, and education to develop sustainable conservation solutions.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Mechanic Assistant under general supervision maintains and services a wide variety of vehicles and motorized equipment; makes minor repairs to vehicles and equipment. This position reports to the Lead and Fleet Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Inspects automobiles, trucks, buses and other vehicles.
• Checks water, batteries, transmissions, brakes and differentials on vehicles.
• Checks tire pressure.
• Changes tires and wheels.
• Maintains oil and fuel records, service records, and similar data.
• Checks and records mileage.
• Transports vehicles to garage for servicing and repair.
• Drives motorize vehicles on and off grounds.
• Assists mechanics as helper.
• Makes minor repairs and adjustments to vehicles.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR
This position will be working a 4/10 schedule. Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

JOB EXPERIENCE
• Education, training and/or experience which would demonstrate the essential functions, knowledge and skills outlined.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
• Valid California Driver’s License Upon Hire.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• General servicing requirements for vehicles and motorized equipment.
• Basic mechanical principles and mechanic’s tools and equipment.
• Make arithmetic calculations.
• Keep simple records.
• Understand and carry out instructions.
• Learn specific mechanical maintenance tasks.
• Work effectively with others in a diverse environment.
• Competently perform duties as outlined in Representative Duties section.

• Position Type: Hourly Full-Time Non-Exempt Union – If selected, there will be fees and dues to be paid to the Union.
• Hourly Rate: $30.42
