The Mechanic Assistantwill beresponsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical generators within the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH premises. As a generator attendant, you will oversee the proper functioning of generators to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Your responsibilities include operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing generators as needed. You will also conduct routine inspections, perform preventive maintenance tasks, and keep accurate records of maintenance activities.

To be successful in this role, the Mechanic Assistantmust have a high school diploma/certificate or equivalent in Electrical or mechanical installation and maintenance from a recognized institution

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Start up, shut down, and operate generators to provide power as required.
  • Monitor generator performance, including voltage, frequency, and load levels, to ensure optimal operation.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication to keep generators in good working condition.
  • Conductthe preventive maintenance schedules for MCOE and KGH generators as per the established checklists
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems with generators, electrical systems, and associated equipment.
  • Perform repairs on generators and associated equipment, including engine components, alternators, control panels, and wiring.
  • Conduct regular inspections of generators and related components to detect and address issues before they escalate.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and equipment performance on CMMS system
  • Follow safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Provide support to the FacilitiesMaintenance team members in daily maintenance works
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Maintenance, and clinical teams for smooth operation across departments.
  • Collaborate with external contractors on the servicing and maintenance of the generators.
  • Assist in the routine maintenance and repair of laundry machines, including washing machines, dryers, and extractors.
  • Support incinerator operations, including inspection, cleaning, and burner function.
  • Conduct basic servicing and assist in overhauls of diesel or petrol generators, including oil/filter changes, belt adjustments, and fuel system checks.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

Education, Training& Skills Requirements

  • High school diploma/certificate or equivalent in Electrical or mechanical installation and maintenance from a recognized institution;
  • Additional technical training or certification in electrical or mechanical systems is highly desirable;
  • Minimum of 3-4 years previous experience in generator operation, maintenance, or repair;
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, engines, and mechanical components;
  • Ability to read schematics and technical manuals;
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with generators and associated equipment;
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure accurate record-keeping and thorough inspections;
  • Ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and convey technical information clearly.
