The Compression Mechanic I is an entry-level field position responsible for supporting the inspection, maintenance, and basic repair of natural gas compression equipment under the direction of senior mechanics and supervisors. This role is designed for individuals beginning a career in compression or mechanical maintenance who demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, a safety-first mindset, and a desire to learn and grow within TEP Rocky Mountain’s operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist senior compression mechanics with routine maintenance and basic repairs on natural gas and air compressors
• Perform visual inspections and identify obvious mechanical or operational issues
• Support disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of compressor components
• Safely use hand tools and basic power tools in accordance with company procedures
• Follow preventative maintenance schedules, job plans, and work instructions
• Accurately complete work orders, maintenance checklists, and service documentation
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at job sites
• Comply with all company safety policies, environmental standards, and industry regulations
• Participate in on-the-job training and skill development under experienced technicians
• High school diploma or GED
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
• Ability to read and follow basic technical instructions and diagrams
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial field environments
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Entry-level experience with mechanical, industrial, or automotive repair
• Familiarity with compressors, engines, or rotating equipment
• Trade school or technical coursework related to mechanical maintenance
• Exposure to oil and gas or industrial field operations
• Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working with tools for extended periods
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Exposure to noise, vibration, and industrial equipment
