OUR MISSION
At the Lafourche Basin Conservation Levee & Drainage District, our mission is to ensure operational, financial and maintain the integrity of the Westbank of the Mississippi Levee System, which consist of 63 miles from Donaldsonville, Ascension Parish, to St. Charles Parish. Additionally, we maintain over 30 miles of flood protection in St. Charles Parish.

About this position
Mechanic 2 is a valuable part of the Lafourche Basin Conservation Levee & Drainage District because of their ability to perform skilled maintenance and repair of small engines and mobile equipment. This employee will work under the supervision of the Mechanic Supervisor A.

Two years of experience or training as a mechanic.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Performs repair/maintenance and inspection-related activities on vehicles and heavy construction equipment

  • Perform oil changes, lubrication, filter, proper fluid levels, radiator hose, batteries, etc

  • Checks lighting and wiring systems to ensure proper operation of headlights, spotlights, taillights and parkings lights.

  • Locates causes of malfunction by inspecting major component parts such as gears, rings, pistons, rods, gaskets, crankshafts, valves, seals. etc. Orders and installs replacement parts

  • Connects repaired units to related mechanisms and adjusts systems to proper operation

  • Uses grinding and seating equipment, clutch pilot tools, gear pulling tools, and common hand tools

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational Appointment - up to 24 hours

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

**Note: Agency preferred qualification for applicants is to have valid driver's license **
