This position is in the Office of Operations of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Mechanic Supervisor A. This position serves as a Mechanic 3 for District 04 HQ Repair Shop. The incumbent is required to operate electronic scanners, engine analyzers, exhaust analyzers, oscilloscopes, various testers, meters, plane and two-way radio. Must be knowledgeable in the safe operation of passenger vehicles as well as other equipment operated by the Mechanic 3. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. This position also requires the incumbent to make minor repairs and perform necessary maintenance on equipment and vehicles used to perform this task.

Job Duties:

  • Disassembles, overhauls, and/or repairs heavy equipment or complex systems such as engines, transmissions, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, gear reduction systems, electrical systems, brake systems, exhaust systems, exhaust emission control systems, etc.
  • Performs diagnostic tests to locate malfunctions of the various systems by using extensive knowledge of vehicle systems developed through years of experience. Incorporate visual and audible inspection with the use of a wide range of computerized test equipment such as electronic scanners, engine analyzers, dynamometers, exhaust analyzers, oscilloscopes, and various testers and meters as well as non-computerized testing equipment. Applies knowledge of how complex electronic systems affect the operation of mechanical systems in order to determine the nature and extent of repair necessary.
  • May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support

Compensation:

  • Mechanic 1 – Starting salary is $17.18/hourly

  • Mechanic 2 - Starting salary is $19.67/hourly

  • Mechanic 3 – Starting salary is $21.05/hourly
