Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The Measurements organization provides measurement solutions to Corning’s Optical Connectivity business to support highquality fiber optic products.

The Measurement Engineer applies knowledge of fiber optic manufacturing processes and measurement systems to support product testing and inspection across global manufacturing sites. This role supports technology transfers, drives measurement standardization, and acts as a technical resource to ensure measurement systems are consistently deployed and sustained across regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing sites with the implementation and sustainment of measurement and inspection systems for fiber optic products.
  • Support technology, products and equipment transfers between regions, ensuring measurement systems are properly defined implemented and validated.
  • Drive standardization of measurement methods, systems, and documentation across manufacturing sites to ensure consistency and repeatability.
  • Participate in measurement system qualification activities, including basic MSA, GR&R, and capability studies.
  • Support measurement and equipment improvement initiatives related to reliability, measurement error reduction, and automation.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Support training of engineering, maintenance, and operations teams on measurement systems.
  • Collaborate with global engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to support testing and requirements alignment and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics, Mechanics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in measurements, process engineering, or a related role.
  • Working knowledge of measurement systems and hardware used in manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of measurement system analysis (MSA, GR&R) or measurement standardization activities.
  • Ability to follow and apply standard work and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem solving skills and willingness to grow as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Effective communication skills in English and ability to work with global teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting equipment, product or technology transfers in manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic products or inspection systems.
  • Demonstrated application of measurement science in the fields of fiber optics, surface profiling interferometry, microscopy, optical refractometry and/or other optical or physical measurement disciplines.
  • Working and demonstrated applied knowledge of fiber optic cable assembly measurement equipment related but not limited to: optical attenuation, reflectometry, surface profile interferometry, and video microscopy (end-face inspection).
  • Scientific curiosity and interest in continuous improvement.

Travel Requirements

  • 0-20% travel domestic and international (USA, China, Mexico)
