The MDG Data Engineer is responsible for building, enhancing, and supporting SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) solutions to ensure high‑quality, compliant, and governed master data across the enterprise. This role works closely with business stakeholders, data stewards, functional teams, and integration partners to deliver end‑to‑end master data solutions across SAP S/4HANA and non‑SAP systems.
The role combines MDG configuration, data modeling, workflow, integration with strong collaboration across functional, technical, and governance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Configure and enhance SAP MDG data models (e.g., Business Partner, Material, Finance, Asset / EAM objects), including custom extensions where required
Implement MDG Central Governance processes, including change request (CR) types, Workflow design and approvals, Business rules and validations
Configure Fiori and UI components (standard and extended) to support MDG processes
Configure, and support MDG replication using DRF (Data Replication Framework)
Implement replication to: SAP S/4HANA instances (upstream/downstream, multi‑instance scenarios) Non‑SAP systems and external platforms
Implement replication filters and models to ensure correct organizational and system‑specific data distribution
Support initial data loads and ongoing data migration into MDG and S/4HANA
Collaborate with Data Services / ETL teams to: Ensure alignment between MDG staging, key mapping, and target systems
Implement and enforce data quality rules, validations, and mandatory field logic
Support data governance operating models by working with Data Stewards, Data Owners, Business Process Owners
Troubleshoot and resolve MDG data quality, workflow, and replication issues
Support MDG activities across environments (DEV, TEST, UAT, PROD)
Participate in release planning, Cutover activities, Hypercare and post‑go‑live support
Follow transport, documentation, and audit standards
Contribute to MDG playbooks, standards, and best practices
Identify opportunities to improve performance, reusability, and process efficiency
Required Skills
Strong hands‑on experience with SAP Master Data Governance (MDG)
Solid understanding of MDG data models, Change Request framework
Workflow configuration Business rules and validations
Experience with DRF replication and MDG integration patterns
Looking for 4-10 years of experience in SAP MDG
Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA master data objects (BP, Material, Finance, EAM)
Experience supporting data conversion or migration initiatives
Familiarity with SAP Data Services (BODS) or similar ETL tools is a strong plus
Understanding of key mapping, staging tables, and reconciliation concepts
Good understanding of end‑to‑end business processes impacted by master data
Ability to translate business requirements into MDG technical solutions
Nice to Have
Experience in multi‑instance S/4HANA landscapes
Exposure to Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) MDG extensions
Prior experience in large SAP transformation or Digital Core programs
Knowledge of data governance frameworks and operating models
Educational Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
