We’re looking for an experienced Maintenance Department/Contract Manager to join our Manawatū team.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
As Maintenance Department/Contract Manager you will lead the overall performance of the maintenance contract function, with responsibility for both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic direction. You’ll provide strong people leadership, developing and coaching your team to perform at their best while building effective relationships with key stakeholders across the business. With full operational and financial accountability, you’ll ensure maintenance activities are well planned, efficiently executed, and aligned with organisational priorities.
You’ll also champion a strong, proactive safety culture and drive continuous improvement across all maintenance activities. This role offers real variety and challenge, along with the opportunity to make your mark, influence how the contract operates, and support the ongoing growth and capability of the team and wider operation.
Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities
Be aware of and oversee contractual procedures for managing changes to scope of work for direct work and sub-contractor agreements
Ensure reports, claims and programmes are prepared and submitted correctly and in a timely manner
Ensure forward planning, organising and ordering of contract subbies, materials, plant people
Ensure your department staff are provided with leadership and guidance to maximise performance
Ensure the delivery of all work to required standards and contractual agreements
Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and other key stakeholders

5 years relevant experience within roading maintenance and construction
Leadership and people management experience with a strong focus on mentoring and development
Understanding of job pricing including labour, plant and materials and associated margin/profit calculations
Operational management – planning, resource allocation and coordination
Financial management of budgets, cost-benefit analysis, reconciliation, reporting
Have a solid understanding of civil construction methods, systems and techniques
Time management skills and ability to prioritise to meet numerous and demanding deadlines
