Job Description

The Monitoring and Diagnostics (M&D) Center in Gas Power is the largest power generation monitoring facility in the world, monitoring over 900 power plants and over 3000 turbines. The core of the service is to make recommendations to customers that directly impact their availability, reliability, or thermal efficiency. The organization is split into mini technical teams aligned by technology: combustion, rotor dynamics, valves and accessories, thermal performance, etc.

The Senior Engineer in this role will have two primary responsibilities. First, this individual will serve as the main point of contact for customer engagements and daily operational management at the regional M&D Center in Dubai, in a highly customer-facing role. Second, the role will provide deep technical expertise in gas turbine operability, with a focus on thermal performance, combustion behaviour, and/or accessory system operation. This individual will be expected to assess operational issues, develop data-driven recommendations for customers, and support fleet reliability and performance improvement through the creation and application of advanced analytics.
The role requires close collaboration with frontline M&D Engineers, subject matter experts, Product Service teams, CPMs/CSLs, and customer site personnel to address technical challenges, improve unit operability, and support customer outcomes across the fleet.

This is a unique role that is a part of a diverse team of 30+ global engineers that make recommendations to our customers to help them maximize run time. This role is a combination of complex technical work, project management with advanced communication and presentation skills and the use of Lean principles.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Be the focal point for customer engagements in the regional M&D Center in Dubai
  • Own and further develop the technical domain related to M&D analytics and detectable failure modes, including building expertise in fleet failure mechanisms and root cause analyses (RCAs), as well as understanding how sensor data is leveraged within analytics to identify and help prevent failures
  • Make recommendations to customers that will prevent unplanned downtime, damage to the generator, and help scope maintenance outages.
  • Conduct training with the Frontline M&D team to assure generator alarms are vetted properly.
  • Utilize Lean principles to modify processes and make recommendations on where analytics need updated.
  • Be the domain expert in the analytics building process, assisting the data scientist and coders deliver a high quality analytic
  • Work with product services on top issues and RCA's in the assigned technical spaces

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical experience with heavy-duty gas turbine technology
  • Proven track record of delivering effective presentations to both internal stakeholders and external customers
  • Strong communication skills in English
