Department Overview:

Maydm is a Madison, WI-based nonprofit building a talent pipeline in science, technology, engineering, and math for girls and youth in grades 6–12. Through workshops, immersive summer programs, paid internships, and a credentialed AI pathway, we connect students directly to employers and real workforce opportunities. Creating access to STEM learning and career experience that too many students never get, so students can change the face of STEM.

We seek enthusiastic applicants who believe the future of technology is brightened by the diverse young builders of tomorrow and those who work toward progress as a team. Candidates that will work best with us are those that come ready to learn and empathize with principles of youth development.

Schedule

This position is hybrid. Some in-person training or events can be in-person though much of the work can be done remote. We will work with you to find a schedule that fits (Monday -Friday.)

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

• Strong writing and storytelling instincts
• Comfort with social media platforms and basic content creation/editing tools
• Reliable, organized, and able to hit a monthly content cadence
• A genuine interest in STEM equity and telling real stories about real students

Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite

Basic photography and video capture, editing, and production skills

Comfortable using analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Meta Insights

Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Technical and Communication Skills

• Media Skills - Canva, Mailchimp, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace Proficiency
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to adapt tone and voice across different platforms and audiences
• Skilled at drafting, editing, and proofreading newsletters, blogs, and marketing copy
• Strong storytelling ability with a focus on mission driven and community impact narratives
• Experience with media outreach or public relations is a plus

Creativity & Organization

• Creative thinker with the ability to generate fresh campaign and content ideas
• Able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong attention to detail in both written content and visual presentation
• Comfortable taking and incorporating constructive feedback

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Produce our monthly donor and community newsletters

• Pull program updates directly from staff
• Support quarterly partner impact briefings

Shared role

• One Alumni story and one Young Professional in STEM story every month
• A monthly new-partner highlight — real recognition we’ve contractually promised our corporate partners
• Support for our year-end appeal and Giving Tuesday campaign

Why This Role

You’ll build a real portfolio - video, photography, newsletters, and campaign work for named corporate partners — while directly supporting a nonprofit’s growth strategy. This isn’t a fetch-coffee internship; you own real deliverables from week one.
