About Outwood Academy Redcar: A Leader in Inclusion

Outwood Academy Redcar is a forward-thinking 11-16 academy located in the scenic coastal town of Redcar. We are proud to be a pilot school for the OGAT Inclusive Classroom initiative, placing us at the forefront of inclusive practice.

We believe inclusion is a fundamental right, not a 'bolt-on'. We have invested in creating a 'low-arousal' environment—characterised by clutter-free classrooms and calming aesthetics—to ensure every student can focus and thrive. Our strategies are evidence-based and developed in partnership with educational psychologists, ensuring you have the expert backing and a calm environment to support every child in your classroom.

Our Teaching & Learning Model

Our approach is built on a foundation of relational practice, ensuring that every student feels safe, valued, and ready to learn. As a teacher here, you will be supported by a clear framework that prioritises:

  • Regulate, Relate, Reason: We recognise that students must feel a sense of connection before they can engage with cognitive reasoning.
  • Restorative Practice: We focus on repairing relationships through high challenge accompanied by high support.
  • The 5 Pillars: Our classroom practice is structured around five key pillars—Clarity of Intentions, Recap & Recall, New Information, Practice, and Feedback—providing consistency and clarity for all learners.

The Department & Facilities

You will be joining an enthusiastic and energetic maths department, well-equipped with interactive TVs and visualisers in each classroom. The department operates out of seven classrooms based in a dedicated maths wing.

We also offer a comprehensive co-curricular programme, encompassing activities such as a thriving Axiom Maths Circle, the Outwood Maths Masters programme, and engagement in national competitions including the UKMT Maths Challenges We value teachers with the skills and passion to teach high-ability students, and for the correct candidate, this role offers significant opportunities to lead in these areas.

  • Supportive Leadership: The department will be led by our experienced Head of Department with a vision to succeed, and you will be supported by an experienced team of School Improvement Partners as you work to raise attainment levels and offer an engaging curriculum experience that focuses on teaching for understanding.
  • Targeted Support: We benefit from a maths one-to-one tutor who offers intervention to students, helping you to raise attainment levels.
  • Maths Hub Connection: The Trust is very well connected to the local Maths Hubs, with the Yorkshire and Humber Hub being based in the Outwood Institute of Education. Here, you will have access to world-class pedagogical research and the chance to get involved in fantastic projects that influence maths teaching across the region.

Your Pathway to Professional Development
