Math Teacher - Long Term Substitute

Kirkwood High School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Long-Term Substitute teacher in the Mathematics department to assume instructional responsibility for sections of Algebra I, Precalculus, Algebra II beginning March 2027. This position provides continuity of instruction for students for the remainder of the academic term, following established curriculum and pacing while bringing strong content knowledge and classroom management to the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in Honors Geometry and Precalculus
• Implement existing lesson plans, curriculum maps, and course pacing guides, adapting as needed to support student learning
• Assess student progress through homework, quizzes, tests, and projects; maintain accurate and timely grade book records
• Provide extra help and academic support to students outside of class time as needed
• Communicate regularly and professionally with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues regarding student progress
• Maintain a positive, well-managed, and inclusive classroom environment
• Collaborate with the mathematics department on curriculum, assessments, and departmental initiatives
• Attend faculty meetings, parent conferences, and other school functions as required
• Fulfill other duties typical of a full-time classroom teacher for the duration of the assignment

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field required
• Valid state teaching certification in Secondary Mathematics preferred (or eligibility to obtain emergency/substitute credential)
• Prior experience teaching Geometry and/or Precalculus at the high school level strongly preferred
• Experience with honors or accelerated-level coursework a plus
• Currently enrolled in an education program at an accredited college or university
• Strong classroom management skills and ability to build rapport with high school students
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to step into an established classroom and maintain continuity for students mid-year

Additional Information

• This is a temporary, long-term substitute position anticipated to run through May of the 2026-2027 school year (specific end date to be confirmed)
• Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications; comparable to district's per-diem/long-term substitute pay scale
• Successful completion of background check and fingerprinting required prior to start date

Long Term Sub Pay is $27.00 per hour.
