Job Description

The Mathematics and Computer Science Department will be accepting applications for our Math Intern position for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Math Intern position is an exciting opportunity especially for recent graduates! The position is 30 hours per week during the 30 weeks classes are in session and final exams are being given. The Math Intern is required to take one or two courses within the Department (i.e. either mathematics or computer science) each semester they are employed. This coursework could include Independent Studies. Upon approval, the coursework could occur in other departments (especially in the Natural Sciences Division) for the purposes of supporting interdisciplinary studies.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Working with students in office hours in the Department on material from MATH 100 (Elementary Functions), MATH 129 (Calculus I with Pre-calculus), MATH 130 (Calculus I) and MATH 131 (Calculus II).
  • If staffing allows it, the Math Intern may also have the opportunity to tutor BIDS 101, MATH 192, MATH 200, MATH 204, MATH 237, and MATH 278.
  • Meeting with the faculty teaching the courses for review and preparation of material.
  • When there are no or few students asking questions during office hours, the Math Intern is also expected to assist the Department in other ways such as designing/updating bulletin boards and organizing student space.

Other Information:

This is a part-time, 9-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Office hours are late afternoon and evening, Sundays through Thursdays during the weeks classes are in session and may also include Friday and Saturday during reading and exam periods. Salary: $22,105.00

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a major or a minor in Mathematics is required.
  • Experience as a TA or Teaching Fellow, especially in mathematics, is preferred.
