Your Opportunity

The Stantec Geotechnical Group in Winnipeg, MB is seeking three (3) Materials Testing Technicians/Technologists to join our materials testing team. This position will act as support to both our field and laboratory operations in construction materials testing and inspection services. In this role, you will interact with suppliers, producers, contractors, consultants, and owners from the private and public sectors. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform construction materials testing & inspection services on concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and soils in field and laboratory settings, including but not limited to:
  • Concrete field testing
  • Compaction testing of soil, aggregate, and asphalt pavement
  • Laboratory testing of soil, aggregate, asphalt, and hardened concrete
  • Geotechnical inspections such as pile monitoring, subgrade, and proof roll inspections
  • Obtaining core samples from concrete structures and asphalt pavement
  • Resilient floor testing
  • Forensic investigation of concrete structures
  • Operating and maintaining moisture-density gauges (class 7 radioactive dangerous good)
  • Mobilize to worksite in a fleet vehicle
  • Preparation of field and laboratory test reports

The successful candidate will join our group of over 25 professionals. They will receive mentorship and training from our team of experienced technologists and engineers.

  • Highly organized, and able to accommodate a flexible schedule
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Available to work overtime and on weekends, including occasional out-of-town projects from 1 or 2 days to up to 2 or 3 weeks at a time
  • Capable of lifting 25 kg test samples as required by the applicable test procedure
  • Capable of lifting heavy equipment as required while performing field testing and inspections
  • Lead by example and promote our health and safety culture
  • A valid class 5 drives license and clean driver’s abstract
  • ACI or CCIL certification for concrete, aggregate, asphalt, and/or soils would be an asset
  • Knowledge of advanced concrete and soil testing procedures would be an asset
  • Knowledge of sampling procedures and common construction methodology would be an asset
  • Experienced with MTI (Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure) and/or City of Winnipeg associated field and laboratory testing procedures would be an asset

Education and Experience

  • Hold a technician/technologist diploma from a recognized college
  • Minimum 1-year prior experience in materials testing
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification with CTTAM with designation as C.Tech. or C.E.T.
  • Have experience and knowledge with relevant standardized testing procedures such as ASTM, AASHTO, and CSA
