About the Role

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for leading material flow operations within the manufacturing facility, ensuring materials are delivered safely, accurately, and on time to support production requirements. This role manages material handlers, inventory movement, line replenishment, and warehouse activities while driving safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Supervise daily material handling operations, including line feeding, inventory movements, and warehouse support activities.
  • Lead and develop material handlers to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
  • Ensure uninterrupted material flow to production areas to prevent downtime.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory accuracy through proper scanning, transactions, and cycle count activities.
  • Coordinate material replenishment using FIFO, Kanban, and other inventory control processes.
  • Investigate and resolve material shortages, inventory discrepancies, and process issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies regarding powered industrial equipment.
  • Track and report department KPIs, including inventory accuracy, forklift utilization, productivity, and material delivery performance.
  • Support continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing waste and improving operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with production, shipping, receiving, quality, and supply chain teams to meet customer requirements.

What You Need To Be Successful:

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Knowledge of material handling, inventory control, and warehouse operations.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with ERP, WMS, RF scanners, and inventory management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Automotive manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, FIFO, Kanban, and warehouse optimization principles.
  • Experience managing forklift fleets and powered industrial truck operations.
  • Experience with cycle counting, inventory reconciliation, and inventory accuracy programs.
  • Knowledge of EDI, ASN processing, and customer-specific logistics requirements.
  • Previous experience leading Kaizen events or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Forklift certification and hands-on material handling experience.

Education

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing or logistics experience will be considered.

Travel:

  • Minimal travel required (less than 5%).
  • Occasional travel may be required for training, audits, benchmark visits, or support at other company locations.
