Materials Science Specialist

About the Role

As a Materials Science Specialist, you will be responsible for material testing, failure analysis, and analytical support within the Customer Service Laboratory of our TechCenter. The role ensures high-quality, safe, and compliant laboratory operations while supporting internal stakeholders, customer projects, and continuous improvement of test methods and procedures. The Materials Science Specialist works closely with laboratory manager, engineers, and cross functional teams and acts as a technical expert in analytical methods and materials characterization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Operations & Material Analysis
  • Perform material testing, analysis, and failure investigations in accordance with defined operating procedures, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and issue accurate and timely test reports and technical documentation.
  • Ensure proper use, handling, and basic troubleshooting of analytical and laboratory equipment.
  • Support the validation, update, and continuous improvement of laboratory test methods and work instructions.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Technical Support
  • Conduct routine equipment maintenance and ensure instruments remain in qualified and operational condition.
  • Maintain laboratory readiness by ensuring availability, cleanliness, and correct setup of tools and consumables.
  • Support the laboratory supervisor with daily laboratory operations and technical coordination activities.
  • Safety, Compliance & Quality
  • Safety is an integral part of all work and must always be the top priority.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with applicable HSE laws, regulations, company standards, and management systems (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISRS).
  • Complete quality records, laboratory documentation, and 5S activities as required.
  • Training & Knowledge Sharing
  • Provide technical training and explanations to internal stakeholders and, when required, to customers.
  • Share best practices and technical know‑how within the team to promote continuous learning.
  • Support onboarding, training, and on‑the‑job guidance for new laboratory employees.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in the formulation or revision of laboratory and safety procedures.
  • Support other laboratory or TechCenter activities as assigned by the supervisor or management.

Qualifications

  • Education & Major
  • Master degree or above in Materials Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in materials testing, analytical laboratories, or related technical environments.
  • Experience with analytical instruments and laboratory workflows is required.
  • Competencies
  • High level of professional ethics, integrity, and reliability.
  • Strong hands‑on skills with analytical instruments, software and laboratory equipment.
  • Solid understanding of analytical methods from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong logical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good communication skills, high flexibility and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
