Job Description

Cory is one of the UK’s leading waste management and recycling companies.

We operate the Transfer Station at Smugglers Way in addition to its existing Transfer Stations operated on behalf of the Western Riverside Waste Authority (Cringle Dock), City of London (Walbrook Wharf), Tower Hamlets (Northumberland Wharf) and Barking.

We are currently recruiting for a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) Manager to add to the team at Smugglers Way. This is a key role which Cory operates the Transfer Station at Smugglers Way in addition to its existing Transfer Stations operated on behalf of the Western Riverside Waste Authority (Cringle Dock), City of London (Walbrook Wharf), Tower Hamlets (Northumberland Wharf) and Barking.

Key elements of the role:

The successful candidate will:

  • Manage the process of received waste in accordance with legal and company procedures while maintaining compliance with our permit

  • Manage MRF personnel, including understanding core personnel procedures and employment legislation

  • Manage production, including ensuring that all Health and Safety regulations are met

  • Manage contracts and allocating resources to operations and tasks

  • Manage the MRF finance and work with the Senior Manager to maintain budgets

  • Retain existing business

  • Perform other reasonable activities and duties under the direction of the Senior Manager

Requirements

The individual we are looking for will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • IOSH Managing Safely Qualified essential, Management qualification and Certificate of Technical Competence desirable.

  • Preferred experience of MRF operations or material sorting

  • Budget and financial awareness essential

  • Physically fit for the role which will include supervising and supporting manual work.

  • A good team player, an ability to work on own initiative, computer skills and attention to detail are also essential

  • Excellent communication skills to build and maintain relationships at all levels

  • Proficiency in operating plant e.g. forklifts, loading shovels, or a willingness to undergo training as required

  • Prepared to work additional hours, including weekends, if required
