And that’s where you come in.

Your new role

As a Materials Operative, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient and effective movement, storage, and control of materials within our operations. Supporting the wider Materials team, you’ll be responsible for managing inbound and outbound goods, maintaining stock accuracy, and ensuring materials are available when and where they’re needed to keep our operations running smoothly.

This role is ideal for someone with previous stores, warehouse, or logistics experience—rail experience is highly desirable but not essential, and we welcome applicants from a range of industries.

Successful candidates must hold a UK Driving License with no more than 6 points.

Some key responsibilities

  • Manage the receipt, storage, and dispatch of materials, ensuring accuracy and efficiency

  • Prepare goods for dispatch and arrange courier collections

  • Operate equipment such as forklifts and cranes safely while maintaining excellent housekeeping standards

  • Carry out inventory and stock checks to ensure accurate stock levels

  • Accurately transact materials using internal systems to maintain stock control and traceability

  • Manage material returns, including quarantine and restocking processes

  • Support purchasing activities to ensure timely availability of materials and equipment

  • Work safely and in compliance with company standards at all times

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to meet operational requirements

About you

We are looking for a proactive and reliable individual with a strong work ethic and a commitment to safety and quality.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a stores, warehouse, or logistics environment (rail experience advantageous but not essential)

  • Experience using material control or stock management systems

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team

  • A flexible, positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills

It would be beneficial if you also have:

  • Forklift (FLT) and/or overhead crane licences (training can be provided)

  • Basic IT skills (e.g. Excel, Word, SAP)

What we offer

We value the importance of all of our employees. If you join our organisation, you could be entitled to:

  • Competitive salary

  • Potential opportunity for annual performance-related bonus

  • 25 days holiday

  • Pension scheme with contributions up to 9%

  • Private medical insurance

  • Personal accident insurance

  • Group income protection

  • Group life insurance

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • A flexible benefits plan to suit your lifestyle
