This position supports our approximately 70-employee Salt Lake City manufacturing division. It is a hands-on, site-level role for someone who enjoys balancing purchasing and materials coordination with the daily supervision of a Shipping & Receiving and Order Entry team.

The Materials & Logistics Supervisor is responsible for supporting the division’s purchasing, material availability, inventory, Order Entry and Shipping & Receiving activities.

This position creates and manages purchase orders, works directly with suppliers, monitors material availability, identifies alternate sources for critical materials, and helps ensure materials are available when needed for production. The supervisor also provides daily direction to the Order Entry and Shipping & Receiving teams and works closely with Production, Customer Care, Quality, and other departments to support efficient material flow and on-time delivery.

This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working both at a desk and on the production floor and who enjoys solving day-to-day supplier, inventory, and logistics challenges.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain purchase orders in the D365 ERP system.
  • Monitor open purchase orders, follow up with suppliers, and expedite materials when necessary.
  • Communicate material shortages, supplier delays, or availability concerns to affected departments.
  • Coordinate the purchasing of aerospace coatings, paint, chemicals, production materials, and operating supplies.
  • Confirm material specifications, approved suppliers, lead times, quantities, and availability before orders are placed.
  • Review upcoming customer and production requirements to identify long-lead or difficult-to-source materials.
  • Identify alternate suppliers for critical materials to reduce the risk of production delays.
  • Work with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities, delivery expectations, and service concerns.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and reorder points for production materials and supplies.
  • Review material pricing and communicate changes that may affect quoting, costs, or division performance.
  • Provide daily direction and supervision to the Shipping & Receiving team, including work priorities, training, accountability, and performance expectations.
  • Support efficient receiving, staging, material movement, and outbound shipping processes.
  • Ensure designated Shipping & Receiving or Order Entry personnel verify received materials and accurately record purchase order receipts in D365.
  • Help resolve quantity, condition, specification, documentation, or supplier discrepancies.
  • Work closely with Production and scheduling to confirm that required materials are available before work is released.
  • Coordinate with Customer Care, Estimating, Quality, Finance, and Operations regarding material needs and customer delivery commitments.
  • Monitor basic performance measures such as supplier delivery, material availability, receiving timeliness, shipping accuracy, and on-time delivery.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, inventory, and receiving documentation.
  • Support process improvements within purchasing, materials management, and Shipping & Receiving.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides direct supervision to employees within Shipping & Receiving and Order Entry. Responsibilities include assigning and prioritizing work, providing training and coaching, monitoring performance, addressing concerns, and supporting a safe, organized, and accountable work environment.

Experience and Education

  • Three or more years of experience in purchasing, materials coordination, inventory management, logistics, Shipping & Receiving, or a related manufacturing function.
  • Previous team-lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience creating and managing purchase orders within an ERP system.
  • Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with aerospace, metal finishing, specialty coatings, paint, chemicals, or other specification-driven materials is helpful but not required.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience preferred but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related area preferred. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.

  • Comfortable providing daily direction, coaching, and accountability to employees.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other standard business systems.
  • Collaborative, dependable, and focused on customer service and continuous improvement.
