Come Drive Innovation with Us. We are currently looking for a Materials Engineer 3 to join our Materials Lab testing team in Farmington Hills.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in evaluating the materials that power next-generation automotive technologies. In this role, you won’t just run tests and analyze results—you’ll help ensure the durability, performance, and quality of cutting-edge components used in real-world applications. You’ll collaborate across engineering teams and work with advanced test equipment to support product development from concept to launch.

A Day in the Life:

The responsibilities listed are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties for this role. Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed, to support business objectives.

  • Execute and analyze material tests on metals, coatings, and polymers using industry and internal standards to deliver accurate, high-quality results
  • Document and communicate findings clearly and professionally to stake holders or decision makers
  • Works/solves technical problems with other engineering groups, collect and interpret data and make recommendations for solutions
  • Maintain laboratory readiness for high quality, quick response, as well as provide vital input to future capability planning, balancing frugality with industry state of the art
  • Troubleshoot issues, conduct root cause analysis, and develop effective solutions with cross-functional internal and external teams
  • Manage progress and performance metrics, communicate status and progress across many teams.
  • Develop detailed technical documentation to ensure consistent and reliable test setup and execution
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product engineers, suppliers, vendors, and manufacturing teams
  • Design/develop and execute improved testing procedures to achieve accurate results
  • Research material and product testing technologies and contribute to new product specifications
  • Work independently and seek out internal and external resources required to complete assignments

Who We’re Looking for:

Required:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Materials testing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Technology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Hands on experience with plastics, metals, and/or paints/coatings analytical testing preferred
  • Ability to perform work onsite at Farmington Hills.
  • Hands on experience with mechanical testing and methods such as abrasion, melting point, degradation, chemical resistance, tensile, hardness, impact, fatigue and bend testing, microstructure and surface analysis, as well as corrosion testing and environmental test chambers
  • Knowledge of measurement systems and statistics
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Commitment to safety and organization
  • Ability to perform work onsite at Farmington Hills.
  • Motor Vehicle Report required.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with automotive product development process (preferred)
