Job Description

The Materials Clerk is responsible for both the physical distribution of supplies across the facility and the accurate allocation of inventory within the EHR system. Under the direction of the Materials Manager, this role oversees the daily receipt of goods and maintains accurate inventory records.

Reports To: Materials Manager

Hourly Range: $18.50 - $28.95 ( hourly rate does not include overtime or bonuses which are not guaranteed)

Essential Job Functions:

Inventory Management

  • Maintain hospital inventory levels across all departments.
  • Restock Omnicells in Pre-Op, PACU, ED, and PCU three times daily.
  • Monitor and manage PAR levels within Omnicells.
  • Assist with basic maintenance and troubleshooting of Omnicell systems.
  • Use restock lists to accurately allocate inventory expenses to departments within Cerner.
  • Resupply ancillary areas (Perioperative, Diagnostic Imaging, ED) twice weekly.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and PAR levels in all ancillary storage areas.
  • Communicate PAR level changes with department leaders and staff.
  • Replace empty medical gas cylinders with full tanks.
  • Coordinate vendor-issued product recalls and accurately document outcomes in the “Recalls & EOS” tracking system.
  • Decrement expired inventory from stock records on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Notify appropriate staff promptly of inventory shortages.

Receiving

  • Verify shipment quantities against freight carrier documentation upon delivery.
  • Cross-check packing slips with received items to ensure accuracy.
  • Confirm temperature-sensitive items meet required tolerances.
  • Report discrepancies or shortages to vendors within 24 hours.
  • Receive and document all items in Cerner daily.
  • Organize packing slips numerically for recordkeeping.
  • Scan and archive documents for future reference.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School diploma or its equivalent.

Certification, Licensure: Not applicable

Experience, Training, Knowledge: Strong computer skills. Experience in healthcare/surgery preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to thirty (30)- fifty (50)

pounds in routine material handling, stocking and redistributions process. Arm, hand,

wrist, finger coordination required in order to utilize a computer terminal with accuracy

and speed to enter and obtain information on a daily basis. Must be able to hear, speak

and see in order to provide service to customers and perform computer duties.

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures:

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps,

blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste,

radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving

mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS – Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel

  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
