Job Description

Position Summary

Design-Tex is seeking an organized and experienced Materials Buyer and Production Scheduler to coordinate production schedules and purchase the materials needed for our custom cabinetry and architectural millwork projects.

This position works closely with Project Management, Engineering, Production, Installation, and suppliers to keep projects moving efficiently and on schedule. The ideal candidate can anticipate material needs, identify problems early, adjust to changing priorities, and follow issues through resolution.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on project deadlines, approved drawings, shop capacity, material availability, and installation needs.
  • Coordinate project priorities and release dates with Project Management, Engineering, Production, and Installation.
  • Purchase sheet goods, plywood, panels, laminates, veneers, hardwoods, hardware, adhesives, finishes, and specialty components.
  • Create and manage purchase orders, including pricing, quantities, specifications, lead times, and delivery dates.
  • Monitor inventory, open orders, shortages, backorders, and long-lead materials.
  • Identify scheduling conflicts, capacity concerns, missing information, and material delays before they affect production.
  • Request quotes and negotiate pricing, freight, lead times, and purchasing terms.
  • Build strong supplier relationships and monitor supplier quality, service, pricing, and delivery performance.
  • Coordinate expedited purchases or approved material substitutions when project needs change.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, vendor, and scheduling information in the ERP system.
  • Communicate schedule changes and purchasing issues that could affect production or customer commitments.
  • Support improvements in material planning, inventory accuracy, shop flow, and on-time delivery.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience in purchasing, production scheduling, material planning, inventory control, or a similar manufacturing role is preferred.
  • Experience with custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, casework, woodworking, commercial interiors, or project-based manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of production scheduling, purchasing, inventory management, and material planning.
  • Ability to review bills of material, material lists, specifications, and project drawings.
  • Strong organization, problem-solving, negotiation, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, purchase orders, and changing priorities.
  • Experience using ERP or manufacturing planning systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education in supply chain, operations, or business is helpfulbut not required.
