Job Description

The Material & Production Planner owns the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and the planning parameters that drive MRP outputs in SAP. This role is the connective tissue between demand, supply, and production execution — responsible for ensuring that production orders are correctly scheduled, material-ready, and grounded in accurate data.

The planner generates and maintains demand signals (PIRs) that give buyers long-lead visibility, governs the SAP parameters that determine how inventory is replenished, and serves as the single point of contact for production schedule changes and expedite feasibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the weekly MPS in SAP, integrating capacity and material readiness.
  • Own production order start dates and ensure alignment with product lead times and material status.
  • Review and adjust the MPS weekly to reflect changes in customer requirements, material constraints, and capacity.
  • Enforce MPS frozen weeks and to protect planning stability.
  • Validate ATP (Available-to-Promise) results and ensure production orders are correctly scheduled in SAP.
  • In collaboration with buyers, maintain accurate lead times, safety stocks, lot sizes, planning strategies, and MRP parameters across all assigned materials.
  • Ensure SAP material data reflects current manufacturing and supply realities to produce reliable MRP outputs.
  • Conduct planning parameter audits on a quarterly basis in coordination with material buyers and inventory control team. Own corrective.
  • Develop and upload Planned Independent Requirements (PIRs) into SAP based on historical demand, consumption patterns, and commercial input.
  • Maintain PIR coverage across all active platforms to ensure buyers have continuous long-lead visibility and procurement signals.
  • In collaboration with the Materials Manager and buyers, review the CM forecasts.
  • Partner with the contract management team to align forecast assumptions with business expectations.
  • Act as the single point of contact and approval authority for all production order schedule changes, expedites, pull-ins, and reschedules.
  • Evaluate expedite request feasibility based on capacity, material availability, and planning fences. Communicate approvals or denials.
  • Review and share MSPT (Missing Parts) reports weekly, coordinating with buyers to resolve constrained materials before they impact production start dates.
  • Produce schedules that maximize monthly OTD and minimizes OD balance at month-end.
  • Define and implement optimal replenishment methods (Bulk, Kanban, VMI, VBS) for P&C materials for inventory optimization.
  • Monitor and refine safety stock levels to prevent shortages while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Support the VBS program by ensuring SAP replenishment parameters reflect supplier-held stock agreements and trigger logic is accurate.
  • Partner with the Materials Manager to review replenishment strategy QoQ against inventory budget targets.
  • Analyze recurring shortages, constraint patterns, and lead-time adherence to drive systemic corrections in planning parameters or process.
  • Partner with the Materials Manager to simplify planning rules, improve MRP accuracy, and standardize data governance.
  • Contribute to the monthly material scorecard by providing planning performance data: MPS attainment, PIR accuracy, safety stock vs. target.

Qualifications:

  • University degree/diploma in related field
  • 3+ years of material buying and planning in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in production planning, master scheduling, or supply chain in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in SAP MRP/PP modules — hands-on experience with MPS, PIRs, planning parameters, and production order management.
  • Strong understanding of MRP logic, replenishment strategies, and inventory control principles.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, communicate schedule decisions clearly, and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to data accuracy and process discipline.
