The Material Services Tech 1 is fully proficient in two or more of the Material Services areas of Purchasing, Shipping, Receiving and Inventory Control and has primary accountability for one. They need a thorough understanding of all parameters that affect inventory accuracy and efficiency to effectively guide inventory decisions.

Responsibilities
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supports MPI lean culture and initiatives by attending and participating in daily lean meetings while supporting efforts to make continuous improvements throughout MPI.
- Follow all Personal Protection Procedures and Requirements.
- Compliance of all OSHA and MPI Safety Procedures.
- Operate forklift and all material handling equipment safely and effectively after MPI training is completed.
- Operate hoists, pallet jacks, lift tables upon completion of MPI training.
- Perform cycle counts and inventory movement transactions.
- Keep Shipping, Receiving and Inventory areas clean and orderly including disposal of packaging material and garbage throughout the plant.
- Other duties assigned by management.
Purchasing:
- Manage and develop vendor relationships to source components supporting project lead time and cost goals
- Utilize and interpret Purchasing Suggestions and ERP/MRP inputs to create an effective purchasing plan
- General understanding of Supply Chain metrics for on-time delivery, quality and cost as well as understanding of individual contributions towards site goals
- Act as a representative of MPI Excellence both to internal stakeholders and external vendors
Receiving
- Verify deliveries against Purchase orders, including inspection as needed, receive into Epicor ERP, label and
- Stock received material in specific bins, utilizing FIFO principle and maximizing use of available storage.
- Perform cycle counts and assist with Inventory Control functions.
Shipping
- Working from Epicor queue, prioritizes shipment order, pulls, verifies and issues parts, completes jobs, verifies order accuracy/completeness against Sales Orders, working with other departments as needed.
- Determines best method of packaging/crating and shipping being knowledgeable of options based on shipment, size, weight, destination and customer preference.
- Generates quotes, contracts with freight vendors, provides shipping and customs documents and appropriate package labeling as required.
Inventory Control:
- Maintains an accurate accounting of the type, quantity and location of all MPI inventory except WIP.
- Has primary responsibility for the VLM unit and its efficient use.
- Picks Issues and Supplies inventory to production per Job BOM requirements and schedule, ECR’s and Quality issues.
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Above average Attention to detail is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees of organizations including fellow workers, engineering staff and supervisors.
- Above average organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, listen and communicate effectively.
- Above average computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Epicor preferred.
- Have good analytical and problem-solving ability with ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and understand percentages and conversion factors.
- They must present themselves well to personnel from all areas and departments including outside vendors, contractors and customers.
- Valid driver’s license; to be verified by MPI’s insurance carrier prior to driving company vehicle.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
- Education / Experience: High School Diploma with some college or 4 to 6 years’ experience in a related field.
