Job Description

The Role:

The Master Data Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and governance of master data across the organization. This role supports day to day master data operations, drives data quality improvements, and enforces governance frameworks that safeguard data integrity. The specialist collaborates closely with business units, IT, and other stakeholders to maintain high-quality master data that supports efficient processes, analytics, and decision making.

The Responsibilities:

Day-to-Day Master Data Operations

  • Create, update, and maintain master data records (e.g., customers, vendors, materials, products, assets) in the SAP & QAD system.
  • Validate incoming master data requests for completeness and compliance with established standards.
  • Perform routine data checks to ensure correctness and alignment with business rules.
  • Process mass uploads or corrections using approved tools and templates.
  • Support end users by troubleshooting master-data-related issues and providing guidance on correct data entry procedures.
  • Monitor master data workflows and service tickets to ensure timely resolution.

Master Data Governance

  • Enforce the organization’s master data governance policies, structures, and procedures.
  • Act as a gatekeeper for critical data elements and ensure adherence to naming conventions, hierarchies, classifications, and data standards.
  • Maintain and update documentation such as data dictionaries, business rules, metadata standards, and process guides.
  • Assist in defining data ownership and stewardship responsibilities across the organization.

Master Data Quality Management

  • Monitor data quality KPIs (completeness, uniqueness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness), identify anomalies, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on data issues and propose sustainable improvements.
  • Initiate, lead and support data cleansing initiatives across business domains.
  • Work with business and IT stakeholders to improve data validation rules, system controls, and automation opportunities.
  • Conduct regular data audits to ensure continued compliance with internal and external requirements.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with IT teams to support system enhancements, integrations, and MDM platform improvements.
  • Collaborate with business process owners to understand changing data needs and translate them into master data requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to end users on data governance, data quality standards, and system processes.
  • Communicate data-related insights, risks, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional teams.

The Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Business, IT, or related field.
  • Experience with master data management in SAP & QAD ERP.
  • Strong understanding of the material master data domain.
  • Proficiency in Excel, data analysis, and data validation techniques.
  • Strong communication skills and an analytical, detail-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders.
