Position: Materials Lead (full-time, permanent)
Location: Various projects across North Central USA
Rotation: 6 weeks on, 1 week off
Schedule: 6 days on, 1 day off

Reporting to the Procurement & Material Manager, the Material Lead is responsible for overall materials management strategy, planning, and risk oversight for a large-scale transmission construction project located in the North Central Region of the United States.

The project involves multiple structure types, wire types, laydown yards, and assembly areas. The Material Lead owns material forecasting, procurement alignment, logistics strategy, inventory risk management, and supplier coordination across the full project lifecycle. This role ensures materials are planned, procured, delivered, staged, and managed in a manner that supports uninterrupted construction execution and aligns with project schedule, cost, and quality requirements.

The Material Lead provides leadership to the Materials Coordinator(s) and works closely with Project Management, Construction Management, Quality, and Procurement teams to ensure material readiness, traceability, and compliance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

MATERIALS STRATEGY & PLANNING

  • Support in development and maintaining the project Materials Management Plan aligned with construction sequencing and schedule milestones
  • Lead material forecasting and long-range planning for permanent materials, consumables, and specialty items
  • Define laydown yard, warehouse, and assembly-area strategies to support efficient material flow
  • Identify material-related risks and implement mitigation strategies for long-lead and critical items

PROCUREMENT & SUPPLY CHAIN INTERGRATION

  • Coordinate with Corporate Supply Chain and Procurement to support sourcing strategies, purchasing plans, and vendor alignment
  • Ensure procurement activities align with project schedules, material priorities, and delivery constraints
  • Monitor supplier performance related to delivery, documentation, and quality compliance, and support issue resolution as required

LOGISTICS, INVENTORY & RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee logistics planning for inbound, outbound, and inter-yard material movements
  • Establish inventory controls to balance availability, storage capacity, and cost exposure
  • Monitor material status and delivery risks, escalating issues proactively and ensuring contingency planning for critical materials

QUALITY, COMPLIANCE & TRACEABILITY

  • Coordinate with Quality teams to ensure material certifications, traceability, and documentation meet Contract and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure material handling, storage, and preservation practices comply with Company quality standards
  • Support resolution of material OSDD, substitutions, or deviations in coordination with Quality and Engineering

TEAM LEADERSHIP & COORDINATION

  • Lead and mentor Materials Coordinator(s), defining roles, workflows, and execution priorities
  • Coordinate with Construction Management to align material availability with field execution needs
  • Interface with Project Coordinators to support reporting, schedule updates, and project controls

REPORTING & STAKEHOLDER INTERFACE

  • Provide regular material status updates, forecasts, and risk assessments to Project Management
  • Support Owner, Engineer, and internal stakeholder discussions related to material planning and delivery
  • Contribute material-related inputs to project reporting, risk registers, and recovery planning

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered
  • 5–7+ years of experience in materials management, supply chain, or logistics roles supporting large construction or infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrated experience managing materials for large-scale linear infrastructure projects, including transmission lines & substations
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, logistics planning, inventory control, and supplier management

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to manage complex material flows across large projects
  • Proficiency in supply chain, inventory, and project management systems; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
  • Ability to analyze material demand, delivery risks, and schedule impacts to support proactive decision-making
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across project, construction, quality, and procurement teams
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
This position requires candidates to:

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States or able to obtain and maintain U.S. work authorization
  • Successfully complete pre-employment and site-specific drug and alcohol testing
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Complete background screening and criminal record checks as required
  • This is a site-based role operating on a rotational schedule. The anticipated rotation is six (6) weeks on / one (1) week off, working six (6) days on and one (1) day off (Sundays), with twelve (12) hour workdays. Rotation and schedule are subject to project needs and construction sequencing, and flexibility to adjust during critical phases is required.
