Material Handler/Equipment Operator

$38.36 - $42.62 | On Site

What You'll Do:

  • Under general supervision of the Inventory Supervisor performs assigned duties connected with transporting, allocating, receiving, inspecting, storage, handling, distribution, and inventory control of materials and supplies used in Transmission & Distribution systems.
  • Transport and secure heavy loads and operates various equipment.
  • Assist various crews and departments by moving and setting materials.
  • Work is centered in a major storage location, and includes duties at other storage sites/yards.

What You'll Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Post-secondary education desired.
  • Two years or more verifiable over-the-road experience operating combination commercial vehicles.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Motor Carrier Safety regulations/DOT guidelines.
  • Knowledge of local major and minor roadways and the ability to effectively use maps and directions for efficient delivery routing.
  • Prior experience in safe operation of heavy equipment used in the utility industry and working understanding of load securement and transport.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Oracle or other Enterprise System).

Special Requirements:

  • This position will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and DOT Medical card at all times, PLUS possess or obtain and maintain a Hazardous Material Endorsement within 60 days of hire date.

  • Gas pipeline safety (Enbridge)
  • Military facility safety (Camp Ripley)
  • Minnesota Power Generation facility assistance (hydro lift gates, deliveries)
  • NERC Security & Access (RECC & Backup Control Centers)
  • Railroad contractor orientation (BNSF & Canadian)
  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) training:
  • Forklift (indoor/outdoor)
  • Fall protection (mezzanines)
  • Signaling
  • Rigging and slings
  • Crane Training (desired)
  • Earth moving equipment
  • Minnesota Power Site Specific Training
  • Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC)
  • Substation competent worker
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills required to build and maintain working relationships.
  • This position is subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

Compensation and Benefits:

The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $38.36 – $42.62. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, and experience.
