Job Title: Material Handler (Forklift Operator)
Working under general supervision, move materials to various areas inside and outside the facility using powered forklift truck or other means of material transportation (example: pallet jack or box truck). Control material movement safely with regards to FIFO (first-in, first-out). Load and unload trucks or freight vehicles. Transport material between departments while ensuring proper routing of material is maintained. May be required to perform other activities including picking orders, taking inventory, shipping and receiving. Fully trained to facilitate receipt, storage and dispatch of packaged inventory.
Responsibility
Load, unload and move products and materials by hand or using basic material handling equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts.
Perform other material handling activities such as counting, weighing, sorting, packing and unpacking.
Operate winches and other loading devices to safely load and unload materials onto and off trucks.
Operate forklift a safe manner, including both loading and unloading of freight.
Perform forklift daily inspection to include the changing of battery.
Keep all manufacturing, shipping and receiving areas organized.
Provide internal transport of WIP to designated areas while maintaining FIFO.
Perform dock audits as required.
Distribution and delivery of all empty containers from the production area to proper location.
Emptying pallet cages of used sand, waste grit, cardboard packaging and other products in accordance to the regulations.
Empty scrap bins into proper containers.
May perform other activities, such as opening containers and crates, filling warehouse orders, assisting in taking inventory and weighing and checking materials.
Move suspect and non-conforming material to designated area (MRB or melt shop).
Support material movement needs of other departments.
Support Physical Inventory, when necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Academic/Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Skills/Experience
Ability to work with a partner and independently as needed. Use a team approach to get materials ready to that they may be moved out efficiently.
Use computer-operated machinery to print delivery slips.
Complete all required training prior to on-the-job training.
Continuously learn on the job.
Receive training in first aid or safe use of forklifts.
Forklift Certified – licensed.
Crane Certified – licensed (if required).
