WORK LOCATION: San Luis Obispo, CA,  Onsite
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: The  anticipated salary range for this role is  $2500 to  $3100 per  hour This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographical  location, and internal alignment. 
 
The Material Handler is responsible for monitoring and driving work-in-progress (WIP) throughout the manufacturing process to ensure materials, components, and assemblies move efficiently through production and are completed on schedule. This role works cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Engineering, Planning, and Supply Chain teams to identify and remove roadblocks, prioritize critical parts, and support on-time delivery of kits and assemblies to Final Assembly.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and schedule priorities.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
  • Maintain the schedule of Manufacturing Orders in daily/weekly packages, based on Master Production Schedule (MPS) by work center capacity. Align & collaborate with department management on production schedule to meet schedule requirements. Coordinate with inventory on delivery of kits and material.
  • Ability to review and implement planning solutions in departments based on needs (i.e. kanbans, scheduling tools, storage report, etc.)
  • Track and monitor work-in-progress (WIP) across multiple production areas to ensure jobs are progressing according to schedule.
  • Identify production bottlenecks, shortages, quality holds, and other constraints that may delay manufacturing timelines.
  • Actively remove roadblocks by coordinating with departments such as Quality Assurance, Engineering, Planning, Inventory, and Production to resolve issues quickly.
  • Expedite parts, materials, and assemblies through manufacturing processes to meet critical deadlines.
  • Prioritize components needed to complete kits for Final Assembly and ensure timely delivery of required materials.
  • Coordinate with QA teams to accelerate inspections and approvals when needed.
  • Work with Engineering to resolve technical issues, discrepancies, or documentation concerns impacting production flow.
  • Monitor batching processes and identify inefficiencies; recommend adjustments to batch sizes to improve workflow and reduce delays.
  • Communicate daily production priorities and status updates to supervisors, planners, and leadership teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of shortages, delays, and production constraints.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on improving throughput, reducing lead times, and increasing manufacturing efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards, safety requirements, and company procedures.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
The following are a non-exhaustive list of qualifications for the position:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, production control, logistics, planning, or expediting roles (aerospace manufacturing preferred).
  • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with complex production schedules.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production tracking tools.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows, inventory processes, and supply chain coordination.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond quickly to changing production needs.
  • Ability to accurately analyze and evaluate part requirements, inventory, and reorder points based on production demand and consumption

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other production reporting tools.

This position may require access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 
The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer  screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to  lift up to  30 pounds as needed.
