Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Inventory Management
Oversee daily metal inventory levels and maintain accurate counts.
Ensure all incoming metal is properly labeled, logged, and assigned to correct batch numbers.
Monitor material usage to ensure compliance with batch-specific production requirements.
Conduct routine cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies.
Collaborate with purchasing and plant leadership to forecast material needs.
Batch & Traceability Control
Enforce strict batch number tracking throughout production.
Ensure metal is pulled and used according to assigned job and batch specifications.
Investigate and resolve batch or usage discrepancies immediately.
Maintain documentation to support traceability and quality control.
Rework & Scrap Management
Track all rework material and identify root causes.
Monitor scrap levels daily and report trends to plant leadership.
Coordinate scrap sales and ensure proper documentation and revenue tracking.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap and increase yield.
Measure and report material utilization rates.
Accountability & Leadership
Hold production employees accountable for proper material handling and usage.
Train team members on inventory processes and batch compliance.
Establish clear expectations around metal control procedures.
Partner with supervisors to address repeated material handling errors.
Foster a culture of ownership, accuracy, and efficiency.
Reporting & Metrics
Provide weekly and monthly reports on:
Inventory accuracy
Scrap percentage
Rework frequency
Material utilization
Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
Support plant audits and operational reviews.
Requirements
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
3+ years of experience in manufacturing inventory, metal fabrication, or materials management.
Strong understanding of batch tracking and material traceability.
Experience managing scrap sales and material utilization preferred.
Proven ability to hold employees accountable in a production environment.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Proficiency in ERP or inventory management systems.
Ability to work cross-functionally with production, purchasing, and leadership teams.
