Job Description

Established in the Blue Ridge foothills of North Carolina in 1963, Leonard Buildings and Truck Accessories is a manufacturer and distributor whose product lines include storage buildings, cargo and utility trailers, truck covers, truck and van accessories, carports, playhouses, chicken coops, and dog houses. We serve our residential, commercial, fleet, and government customers through our 150+ retail store locations in eighteen states, supported by our corporate offices (in Mount Airy, NC, and Cobden, IL), distribution centers, and strategically located manufacturing facilities.

The Forklift Driver position is based at the Leonard Mt. Airy, NC Distribution Center, with operations in the U.S and has overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of forklifts to move, stack, and organize shed components and truck accessories within the warehouse or production area, contributing to the smooth flow of materials and supporting the timely and accurate production of products. This position reports directly to the Warehouse Manager and does not have direct reports.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operates forklifts in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Moves and stacks materials, including shed components and truck accessories, within the warehouse or production area using the forklift.
  • Loads and unloads materials from trucks or other storage areas, ensuring proper stacking and securing of items.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate inventory records by tracking the movement of materials and reporting discrepancies.
  • Conducts visual inspections of materials being transported, identifying and reporting any damages or issues.
  • Works closely with warehouse and production teams to ensure timely and accurate material movement as needed for production schedules.
  • Conducts routine inspections of forklifts, reporting any issues, and ensuring that equipment is well-maintained and in good working condition.
  • Follows standard operating procedures and guidelines for forklift operation and material handling.
  • Promotes a culture of safety in the workplace, reporting any safety hazards or concerns promptly.
  • Implements and oversees safety programs, conduct training sessions for drivers, and enforce safety protocols to minimize accidents and ensure compliance.
  • Generates regular reports on fleet performance, maintenance activities, and budget adherence, providing insights for continuous improvement.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Valid forklift operator certification.
  • Proven experience as a forklift driver in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of forklift safety procedures and best practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently, including the skill to navigate and maneuver in confined spaces.
  • Physical strength and stamina to lift and carry heavy materials as needed during loading, unloading, and stacking.
  • Visual acuity and attention to detail for inspecting materials and ensuring proper stacking.
  • Mobility and agility to move around the warehouse or production area to handle material movement tasks.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and withstand extended periods of standing, walking, and operating the forklift.
  • Overall good physical health to meet the demands of forklift operation and material handling tasks in the shed buildings and truck accessories industry.

This product line expanded and we now offer over 150,000 parts and have developed service centers designed for installing more technically demanding truck accessories like bed-liners, hitches, step bars, bull bars, winches, and lift kits. Most of our stores have a fully equipped spray booths with state of the art equipment. We made it our mission to find the best technicians, train them more, and keep them happy.
