About this opportunity:

When researching the impact of current and future radio network standards, realistic simulation tools are needed to make technically correct decisions. At Ericsson Research, we extensively use in-house simulator tools with varying levels of details for this purpose. To enable faster simulations for use cases that need less detailed models of radio-related layers, we constantly need to re-evaluate simulator models and produce new models with slightly less accuracy, but faster runtime.

The goal of the master thesis is to investigate a selected set of our radio models and propose and evaluate simplified versions that provide reasonable accuracy and a higher execution speed. Such models could include propagation, layer 1 receptions, quality measurement or transmission error models.

The student is encouraged to influence the direction of the master thesis according to interest.

What you will do:

  • With the help of coding agents, understand existing simulator models
  • Propose simplified mathematical models of these features
  • Implement the proposed models in the simulator
  • Evaluate the accuracy and execution of the new models compared to existing models
  • Document and present findings

The skills you bring:

  • You like to work in an environment where you co-operate closely with your team colleagues, together striving to fulfil common targets.
  • You like to communicate with people and find it easy to explain your findings and knowledge to others.
  • You have very strong analytical skills and are eager to find innovative solutions to problems.
  • You should have a sound understanding of digital and wireless communications with an interest in algorithm development and testing.
  • You have strong programming skills in Java, experience of working with AI coding agents, and excellent mathematical knowledge.
  • You are an MSc student in electrical engineering, computer science or related fields.

When applying, please include a transcript of records showing your completed courses and grades.
