Valves are critical components in spacecraft propulsion systems, where high reliability, low mass, and efficient operation are essential. OHB Sweden is currently investigating a new valve concept for future space applications and is seeking a Master's student to support the early stages of the product development.
The thesis will focus on establishing a preliminary product definition, identifying key requirements, evaluating design concepts, and performing first-order sizing and analysis of critical components and operating parameters. Depending on project progress and thesis scope, the work may also include the design, manufacturing, and testing of an initial prototype.
Are you interested in contributing to the development of hardware for future space missions? OHB Sweden is looking for a Master's student to support the early development of a new valve concept for spacecraft propulsion systems.
During the thesis, you will work with the complete early-stage development process, from defining requirements and evaluating design concepts to preliminary sizing, modelling, and engineering design. The work will involve balancing key considerations such as performance, reliability, manufacturability, mass, and power consumption. Depending on the progress and final scope of the thesis, you may also have the opportunity to design, manufacture, and test a proof-of-concept prototype.
You will carry out the thesis as part of OHB Sweden's propulsion team, working closely with experienced engineers and contributing to the development of technology intended for future space applications.
The student will contribute to the early development of the valve through activities such as:
The position is suitable for Master's students in:
Experience with CAD, simulation, product development, testing, or modelling is considered beneficial but is not required.
The student will become part of OHB Sweden's propulsion team and contribute to the development of a new spacecraft propulsion technology. The work offers hands-on experience with real hardware development and close collaboration with engineers working on current and future space missions.

OHB Sweden is a Swedish provider of space systems and develops, builds, tests and operates satellites for different kinds of space missions within communications, earth observation, space research and exploration. From low-orbiting satellites via geostationary ones and all the way up to interplanetary missions.
OHB Sweden is a member of the OHB AG Group (ISIN: DE0005936124, Prime Standard) which currently employs over 2.200 people in its “Space Systems” and “Aerospace + Industrial Products” business units. Within this array, OHB Sweden AB belongs in Space Systems.
Spacecraft heritage includes satellites such as Freja, Astrid 1, Astrid 2, Odin, SMART-1 and the PRISMA system with its two satellites Mango and Tango. All current smallsats are based on the InnoSat microsatellite platform like: GMS-T, MATS, AWS, EIS, GARAI
