Job Description

Under general supervision perform skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance work on buildings, athletic fields, exercise equipment,vehiclesand equipmentServe asteamleader and train others in proper work methods and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • 30% Perform all essential functions of a Maintenance Repair Worker. Perform installations,repairsand replacements of internal/external campus structures and/or facilitiesInspect, install,replaceand repair all types of roofs, flooring, walls, windows, doors, furniture, etc.
  • 15%Maintain,repairand replace various plumbing equipment, open cloggeddrainsand related equipmentPlan, inspect and maintainrecords of maintenance concernsResearch and order maintenance repair parts and supplies.
  • 15% Repair and install lighting,switchesand outletsReplace defective breakers and fuses as neededPerform general maintenanceonelectrical systems.
  • 15% Follow a predetermined schedule of preventative maintenance and daily observations of general building systems including ventilation, airconditioningand heating equipmentChange filters,beltsand grease equipment as needed Troubleshoot and fix equipment as needed.
  • 15% Perform masonry, concrete, painting,weldingand sheet metal work as needed.
  • 10% Assist in ordering suppliesMonitor buildings for potential problemsCoordinate work with other trades. Complete work, time and material usage reports. Perform otherduties asassigned by Supervisor.

Additional Position Information:

Education:

Requireshighschool diploma or GED

Licenses/Certifications:

Valid Ohio Driver’s License and a Journeyman’s Certification.

Experience:

Requirescompletion of the 3-year University of Akron or other State Approved Sponsored Apprenticeship Program for Trade or Requires a minimum of 8 years of mechanic trades experience.Ability tooperateand use standard powered and non-powered tools and equipment such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers, drills and crowbars, jackhammers, core drills, circularsawsand hammer drillsrequired Ability to perform mathematics associated with trade applications (fractions, ratios, percentages)required Ability to read, write and accurately follow oral,writtenand graphic instructions requiredAbility to work alonerequiredProblem solving skills and the ability to use judgment indeterminingthe correct course of actionrequired Prior experience in leading others preferred.

Leadership:

Provide guidance to nonexempt staff including general scheduling, assigningtasksandmonitoringthe work of others, as assigned

by the Supervisor.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 80 pounds without assistance and demonstrate bending,crouchingand liftingMust be able to climb a ladder, scaffolding andworkon rooftops.

Working Conditions:

Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather, noise, airpollution, and heightsMay involve exposure to chemical substances,hazardsand moving parts. Work schedule is subject to changein accordance withUniversityneeds and/or the results of the shift line-up process. Overtime/Call-ins may be mandatory based onUniversityneeds
