This role is based at Tumela 15 East Mine, Thabazimbi, South Africa

The Master Fitter is responsible for providing expert specialised engineering services (e.g advanced mechanical diagnostics, fault finding of critical equipment).

Roles and responsibilities include the below:

  • Comply to environmental requirements
  • Ensure that work area is maintained to the required housekeeping (5 S) standards
  • Exercise judgment with regards to repair versus replacement versus upgrade of components
  • Maintains a high quality of work
  • Provide timely and accurate information
  • Records results of all legal examinations in the appropriate format
  • Work in a sequence that prioritizes work requirements
  • Assist with the identification of specialist tools and facilities to enable efficient maintenance, repairs and fault finding.
  • Assist and advise the engineer on critical spares relating to structures and structural components of mechanical equipment needs and gaps.
  • Personally, perform all specialized tasks as per task matrix.
  • Obtain specialized knowledge from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) and external specialists on the maintenance and testing of complex systems with the intention to develop and execute in-house procedures
  • Adhere to all legal requirements as per the Mines Health and safety Act 29 of 1996 and the Minerals act and Regulations of 1991.
  • Report any contraventions of the Minerals Act, MHSA, Regulations, codes of practice, instructions, permissions, exemptions.
  • Perform other requirements as assigned by your Line Manager.

The role is at a C3 level reporting to the Foreman.

Qualifications

  • N4 certificate
  • Grade 12
  • Fitter and Turner qualification
  • Fitter Trade Test
  • AAP SIMM inspectors’ course (advantageous)
  • NACE Level 1

Experience

  • 8 years’ experience of which 5 years as a qualified fitter / turner within the mining of heavy industrial sectors
  • Experience on winders will be advantageous
  • Shaft will be advantageous

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient in A2 Safety
  • Proficient in VFL Training
  • Proficient in Condition Monitoring Training
  • Proficient in Quality Control & Assurance (ISO9001) Training
  • Advanced knowledge of all site-specific mechanical equipment
  • Must demonstrate advanced skills to troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical equipment with specific focus on condition monitoring, defect elimination and continuous improvement
  • Proficient English (Speak, Read and Write)
  • Proficient in equipment and machinery specific competence as per the role specific requirements detailed in the skills matrix.
