  • Summary of Duties:
    • Design, install, modify, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical systems, controls, and equipment for RDT&E facilities, ranges, and test structures
    • Install, modify, test, repair, and maintain transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, and mechanical/electronic systems; adjust relays and control equipment for specified voltage, current, and time delay; construct and install rigid conduit; pull conductors and assemble bus bars
    • Maintain and install distribution lines and circuits supplying distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits, fire alarm, UPS, lightning protection, and high-intensity discharge lighting systems; plan and execute troubleshooting/repair of high-voltage generating, controlling, and distribution systems
    • Work secondary distribution lines and circuits; intrusion and fire alarm, emergency warning, cathodic protection, and lighting systems; test and maintain gasoline and diesel generators for proper electrical output; aid engineering of electrical systems
    • Troubleshoot sophisticated circuitry and controls on unique RDT&E projects, including complex relay logic, computer interface devices, analog/digital controls, and solid-state motor control circuits; replace circuit boards
    • Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, and technical manuals; maintain, update, and produce new drawings and schematics; comply with the NEC and AF regulations
    • Conduct periodic load tests; diagnose complex electrical power plant and distribution equipment repairs including compressor/refrigerant control systems
    • Maintain and use hand, hydraulic, and power tools and a wide range of electrical test equipment
    • Apply lock-out/tag-out, PPE, OSHA, NEC, and National Safety Code requirements; conduct safety inspections of electrical items and correct defects
    • Assist other trades (carpentry, plumbing, painting, facility maintenance, grounds) when higher-priority projects require surge support
  • Required Qualifications:
    • 10 years' experience and qualified as a Master Electrician; capable of designing or improving new items
    • Thorough knowledge of complete industrial electrical systems, high-voltage generating/distribution equipment, and electronic principles sufficient to troubleshoot circuits with electronic components and replace circuit boards
    • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code, NEC, national fire codes, and local codes; high-voltage/live-circuit safety procedures
    • Ability to independently plan and lay out work and trace hard-to-locate defects with little technical advice; ability to read and produce electrical drawings and one-line/circuit diagrams
    • Skill with meggers, oscillators, phase sticks, rotation meters, circuit analyzers, fault-finding and digital test equipment
    • Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors; capable of moderately heavy lifting (40 lbs routinely, 50+ lbs with assistance), work aloft at 30+ feet, in trenches, manholes, and confined spaces
    • Valid state driver's license;
    • NACI; DoD CAC;
