A Day in the Life

This role will require 20% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

The Master Data IT Advisor leads Medtronic’s global customer master data strategy, establishing the vision, governance, and roadmap that enables high-quality, scalable customer data across the enterprise. The role partners across business and IT to drive transformation initiatives, improve data quality and accessibility, and unlock value through data-driven capabilities. The position serves as a key advisor influencing enterprise priorities and delivering measurable business impact.

The role is accountable for enabling trusted, governed, and scalable customer data products across the Healthcare Organization (HCO), Healthcare Professional (HCP), Group Purchasing Organization (GPO), Integrated Delivery Network (IDN), and related customer domains. The position partners with business, IT, and data leadership teams to ensure customer data becomes a strategic enterprise asset supporting commercial excellence, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, customer experience, and digital transformation.

Enterprise Data Strategy & Business Value Realization

  • Define and evolve the enterprise customer data strategy aligned with Medtronic business objectives and digital transformation priorities.

  • Partner with business leaders to identify, prioritize, and execute strategic customer data use cases.

  • Translate complex business challenges into actionable data initiatives, business capabilities, and roadmaps.

  • Establish measurable business outcomes and value realization metrics including operational efficiency, automation opportunities, revenue enablement, pricing accuracy, order fulfillment improvements, and cost reduction.

  • Define customer domain strategy supporting Operating Units (OUs), functional business groups and IT.

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive stakeholders on customer data opportunities, risks, investments, and business transformation initiatives.

Enterprise MDM Vision, Roadmap & Capability Development

  • Define and maintain the long-term vision and roadmap for enterprise customer master data capabilities.

  • Establish enterprise standards for customer mastering, hierarchy management, reference data, metadata management, data quality, stewardship, and governance.

  • Drive capability maturity assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Align MDM capabilities with enterprise architecture, data platform, and business process transformation strategies.

  • Lead the evolution of customer data capabilities supporting future business growth and digital transformation.

Strategic Program Leadership

  • Provide customer data leadership and advisory support for critical enterprise initiatives and transformation programs.

  • Define enterprise customer data models, hierarchy strategies, integration patterns, and governance controls.

  • Ensure consistency and interoperability across business applications, data platforms, and customer-facing processes.

  • Drive alignment between business process transformation and master data strategy.

  • Support pricing, contracting, customer onboarding, order management, customer service, and supply chain processes through trusted customer master data.

  • Identify and mitigate customer data risks impacting operational performance and customer experience.

  • Support customer master data strategy and integration activities associated with mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and business transformations

Data Products & Product Management Leadership

  • Champion Data Mesh and Data Product principles across the customer domain.

  • Define customer data products, ownership models, operating frameworks, and success metrics.

  • Influence prioritization, investment decisions, and delivery roadmaps for customer-related data products.

  • Establish adoption, quality, usability, and business value metrics to measure success.

  • Partner with Product Managers, Architects, Data Engineers, and Analytics teams to accelerate delivery and adoption.

  • Drive enterprise alignment around customer data ownership, accountability, and value realization.

Governance, Operating Model & Organizational Alignment

  • Lead cross-functional alignment across multiple functional groups within the company.

  • Define governance structures, stewardship models, policies, standards, and operating procedures for customer data.

  • Establish clear accountability frameworks, including RACI models and decision-making processes.

  • Facilitate executive-level workshops and alignment sessions to drive enterprise consensus and strategic decisions.

  • Act as a change agent promoting a data-driven culture and governance adoption.

  • Influence organizational priorities and operating models to improve customer data effectiveness across the enterprise.

Innovation, AI & Emerging Technologies

  • Identify opportunities to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Automation, and Generative AI to improve customer data management processes.

  • Lead proof-of-concepts and innovation initiatives focused on entity resolution, hierarchy automation, data quality improvement, stewardship optimization, and intelligent workflow automation.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously modernize Medtronic’s master data capabilities.

  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement across the customer data ecosystem.

  • Develop business cases and recommendations for future customer data investments and modernization initiatives.

MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 15+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 13+ years of experience with an advanced degree

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Strongly Preferred:

    • Previous Medtronic experience

    • 15+ years of experience in Master Data Management, Data Governance, Enterprise Data Strategy, Enterprise Architecture, or related disciplines within the healthcare, medical device, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries.

    • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-scale customer master data initiatives and transformation programs.

    • Deep expertise in customer master data domains including Healthcare Organizations (HCO), Healthcare Professionals (HCP), Group Purchasing Organizations (GPO), Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN), customer hierarchies, and commercial master data.

    • Proven ability to define enterprise customer data strategies and translate business objectives into scalable data capabilities and solutions.

    • Experience influencing senior business and technology leaders across complex global organizations.

    • Demonstrated ability to influence executive-level decisions and drive enterprise-wide data transformation initiatives without direct authority.

    • Strong understanding of Medtronic customer data processes, business capabilities, operating models, and supporting technology landscape.

    • Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata management, data products, and enterprise data architecture.

    • Experience supporting strategic business capabilities including customer onboarding, order-to-cash, pricing, contracting, rebates, commercial operations, customer service, and supply chain processes

  • Customer engagement and Order to Cash process knowledge enabled by SAP platforms

  • Implementation of enterprise customer data transformation initiatives involving SAP MDG, Reltio, Salesforce, Customer Data Platforms (CDP), Snowflake, Databricks, and cloud-based data platforms.

  • Experience defining and implementing Data Mesh, Data Product, and modern data governance operating models.

  • Proven track record partnering across Commercial Operations, Customer Service, Finance, Supply Chain, Enterprise Architecture, and Data & Analytics organizations.

  • Experience leveraging Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and automation technologies to improve master data management, data quality, and operational efficiency.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$166,400.00 - $249,600.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
