Job Description

Under generalsupervisionperform duties to provide cleaning and maintenance of buildings,furnitureand fixtures. Serve asteam leader andtrain others in proper work methods and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform all essential functions of a Building Services Worker. Sweep, mop, strip, wax, polish and renew floor surfaces. Clean and shampoo rugs and carpets.
  • Clean, dust and wax furniture and fixtures in classrooms/labs,officesand residence halls. Clean and empty trash receptacles.
  • Scrub,cleanand sanitize restrooms (sinks, mirrors, commodes, urinals, showers, stalls, etc.); stock supplies.
  • Plan,leadand assign work for assigned staff. Inspect buildings and review quality of work performed by Assistant Building Services Workers and Building Services Workers. Train new employeesonall equipment operation and job duties. Coordinate and plan special projects. Record inventory andorderssupplies.
  • Clean andmaintainentrance glass, hallways, lobbies, stairs, elevators, walls, doors; remove snow and ice from walkways; check supplies, stockclosetsand order necessary supplies. Clean andmaintainequipment.
  • Complete work,timeand material usage reports. Perform otherduties asassigned by Superintendent/Supervisor.

Additional Position Information:

Education:Requireshighschool diploma or GED. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers (including fractions and decimals). Must be able to read and write using English vocabulary.

Licenses/Certifications:Valid Ohio Driver’s License.

Leadership Provide guidance to nonexempt staff including general scheduling, assigningtasksandmonitoringthe work of others, as assigned by the Supervisor.

Experience:Requires a minimum of 2years of experiencein running vacuum, floor buffer, floor burnisher, automatic floor scrubber,carpetand upholstery equipment. Experiencemaintainingand cleaning buildings, furniture, and fixturesrequired Experience leading others preferred.

Physical Requirements:Must be able to lift 80 pounds without assistance and demonstratebending,crouchingand lifting.Mustbe able to climb a ladder.

Working Conditions:Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather,noiseand air pollution. May involve exposure to chemical substances,hazardsand moving parts. Work schedule is subject to changein accordance withUniversityneeds and/or the results of the shift line-up process. Overtime/Call-ins may be mandatory based onUniversityneeds

  • Shift: Sunday - Thursday, 11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.

This is a Union position with a salary grade of 04. The salary determination is subject to the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Starting rate for external candidates - $16.48 hourly.
