Svitzer invites skilled and experienced Mozambique national Masters to express their interest in future opportunities within our Mozambique operations. By joining our talent pool, you will be considered for upcoming roles within the Mozambique crew pool as they arise. Location: Nacala, Mozambique. The role works on a 3 months on / 1.5 months off rotational schedule, living onboard.

How you will make a difference
As a Master, you will lead the safe navigation and operation of the vessel while building a positive and professional onboard culture. You set the tone for teamwork, safety, and customer service. Your key contributions will include:
Safe operations and decision making: Taking command of the vessel and using sound judgement to protect the crew, the environment, and the vessel at all times. Planning and executing safe towage operations, ensuring the vessel remains seaworthy and properly resourced, and upholding strong navigational and operational standards.
Crew leadership and development: Fostering a respective, inclusive, and supportive onboard environment where crew members learn, contribute, and grow. Encouraging open communication and strong engagement in safety and operations.
Operational delivery and customer focus: Providing reliable and efficient towage services, maintaining high operational standards, and representing Svitzer professionally with customers and port stakeholders. Contributing to solutions that meet operational needs and support continuous improvement.
Maintenance oversight and compliance: Overseeing the day-to-day condition of the vessel, ensuring equipment, certifications, and safety systems remain compliant and ready for use. Supporting planned maintenance, reporting issues proactively, and maintaining strong standards of onboard housekeeping, hygiene, and vessel presentation.
Cost awareness and operational efficiency: Managing onboard resources responsibly, supporting initiatives such as fuel efficiency and downtime reduction, and planning ahead to minimise unplanned maintenance and disruptions.
Through your leadership, professionalism, and commitment to safety, you will contribute to delivering reliable marine services to our customers and contribute to Svitzer’s reputation as a trusted industry partner in Mozambique.
What you will bring
To be considered for this opportunity you must be a Mozambique national and meet the capability requirements below.
Qualifications and experience:
Valid Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (STCW II/2), with all the required STCW certifications (including Basic Safety Training, Fire Prevention, Elementary First Aid, Personal Survival technique, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, Designated Security Duty, GMDSS General Operator)
Proven experience in harbour towage operations including ASD propulsion handling.
Strong knowledge of safe navigation, vessel handling, and marine operations on towing vessels of 3000 KW or above.
Solid understanding of maritime safety practices, risk assessment, reporting requirements, vessel documentation and planned maintenance systems.
Experience engaging with port authorities, agents and customers
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Proficiency in written and spoken English
Mozambique nationality (mandatory requirement)
