Job Summary

Under the direction of the Spa Manager, the incumbent provides professional, high quality massage and bodywork, including specialty and potentially other Spa and Salon treatments and services, based on education and certifications. Massage Therapists are ambassadors of hospitality and good will, executing the standards of excellence to and for each guest. In addition to performing massage and body treatment services, and based on education and certifications, Massage therapists may be trained in other spa modalities including but not limited to energy work, hydrotherapy, body wraps, exfoliations, nail services and specialty treatments, etc. General knowledge of spa operations, equipment, products and procedures is essential. High school diploma or GED required. Must have completed approved coursework in Massage training in an accredited educational enterprise and successfully passed the CT State Board exam and hold a current and unencumbered CT state license to practice Massage. National Massage Certification a plus. Six (6) months of prior service provider experience in massage with proven proficiency and mastery the massage modality in a spa, salon or related beauty industry is required. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to deal well with people. Must be able to prioritize and be multi-tasked. Computer and keyboard experience necessary so as to utilize reservation software. Must posses the ability to understand and follow documents such as safety rules, protocols, TCIs and policy & procedure manuals, standards and procedures, disciplinary notices, and performance reviews. Must possess a valid and unencumbered CT state Massage license. Must be able to obtain and maintain a CT gaming license as required by MPGE. The Foxwoods Grand Spa and Salon Massage Therapist is scheduled by bid shift and adjusted based on flow of business and client demand. The schedule is designed to be flexible to reflect times of guest treatment time preference. Schedules are periodically reviewed by management and as such may be set or changed by management in order to accommodate business regardless of seniority or prior scheduling practices. Must be able to work flexible hours including but not limited to shifts scheduled days, evenings, weekends and holidays, as business demands

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must adhere to Mashantucket Pequot Tribe's and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform and willingness to learn all Massage offerings on the service menu.
  • Must be able to process transactions and compose sales slips.
  • Must provide a nurturing and comfortable environment for spa guests and staff, both in and out of treatments.
  • Must possess well developed customer service techniques and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate guests including but not limited to effectively communicating the nature and scope of the service at its beginning.
  • Must maintain professional proficiency in product knowledge, state-of-the-art techniques in massage and body work modalities, and all procedures required to perform services on guests.
  • Educates guests and staff regarding services, procedures, benefits, contraindications and proper after and home care regimes.
  • Cooperative & working knowledge of retail inventory for the purpose of selling products to encourage after care and bringing the Spa experience home as well as supporting the Retail effort.
  • Maintains open communication with Spa Supervisors and Management.
  • Must adhere to established procedures and protocols regarding treatments, scheduling, guest interactions, professional conduct, injury & accident reporting, attendance and grooming standards.
  • Maintains client and company confidentiality. Attends all required departmental and property meetings, training and events as determined by management, including CPR & Blood Borne Pathogens. Complies without compromise with all Risk Management mandated and department established safety and sanitation requirements. Inspects work areas daily to ensure a pristine and safe environment. Identifies and reports problems to supervision. Uses products and equipment responsibly and helps prevent misuse of inventory and equipment in treatment rooms and all areas.
  • Promotes the services and retail offerings of the establishment and the MPGE property as a whole.
  • Performs all duties and tasks according to the vision, mission and values of the company.
  • Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Salon Supervisor and Management.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment within areas of responsibility and adheres to departments rules of safety.
  • Participates as a panel member on MPGE's Board of Review as needed.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Language Skills

  • Must be able to read and write in fluent English. Second language skills a plus. Must possess exemplary oral and written communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands will vary depending on area of study and, as described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Must be able to push, pull, tug, and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform a minimum of five hours of consecutive treatments.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time (95%).
  • Must be able to hear, speak and move without impediment and use hearing, speaking and movement in the exercise of duties and responsibilities.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to add, subtract, divide, multiply and be proficient in the use of the Spa Reservations MegaSpa or related software systems.
  • Must be able to understand and calculate using the metric, Fahrenheit and Celsius systems.
